I just read an article stating that one of the co-defendants pleaded guilty. The article also said the NAACP is saying Vick is being treated unfairly because he is black.
oh give me a effing break.......

Re: with all this michael vick stuff, the Truth about Pit Bulls.
not only did he plead guilty, but he agreed to help with the case on the others.
In my opinion Vick is guilty, and this is just more evidence to prove it.
Sick sick sick man.

Re: with all this michael vick stuff, the Truth about Pit Bulls.
A couple of things with this case...
As Daniella said - the federal government has a 90% conviction rate, this means they don't go after someone until they have an almost airtight case. Unless the defense can come up with something, he will probably be convicted.
The fact that one of the accused changed his plea to guilty (they were all pleading not guilty last week) means that he is going to plea bargain and give them more proof against Vick.
The government is going after Vick to make a point. The more publicity for this case the better for them in the long run.
As far as him being banned from the NFL, sadly I agree with Don here...the NFL is all about money and if they make money from a player they will keep him, if they are losing money they will suspend him. If he goes to jail, he will probably go right back to football...so many players have before him that I would be amazed if he were banned permanently.

Baseball seems to be different...a little less tolerant, especially a few years ago. Football seems to bring everyone back no matter what they have done.

OJ wasn't playing football....it's different. He was announcing at the time and was more of an actor when Nicole was killed.

cue sharpton
I am not sure what article made this statement but I believe what the NAACP has said so far is that they are urging public restraint in judgement until he has had his day in court.

Re: with all this michael vick stuff, the Truth about Pit Bulls.
When you own property I would imagine that you have a responsibility for everything that happens on your property regardless of whether or not you were there when a crime (or accident) took place.
I had once been involved in a car accident when I was driving a car registered to my mother. Guess what, we were both sued and she was not in the car - she was in her home at the time of the accident. We were both held responsible.
I think the video was horrific, but sadly necessary in order to make its point. However, regardless of the heartwarming nature of the end, I'd still never leave a dog with an infant in such a position as shown in some of the pictures. That bothers me.

i find it odd that everybody calls for things when someone that seems important because there face is on tv for them to suffer for all.
if you are that passionate about this, you would look beyond vick and seeing what a bigger problem there is. vick is still, just one person when there is an estimate 400,000 fighting dogs for big money.

yeah, unfortunately, my gut tells me that he won't be banned
he'll be suspended for maybe this season
the falcons won't release him - if they do that, and the NFL still allows him to play, another team will grab him.
Now, if sponsors stop advertising with the falcons or the NFL as a whole, he'll be banned.
I don't have much faith in the big sports organizations to do the right thing
exactly. Helllloooo- Ray lewis?

I can't stand this story. I really hope the guilty parties are punished appropriately.

Re: with all this michael vick stuff, the Truth about Pit Bulls.
I don't think that the NFL will do much to Vick.
They will look at it this way: what he did has nothing to do with the NFL. (Whereas what's going on with the NBA - that scandal invovles the actual game).
But I could always be wrong.

This is also a FEDERAL case and the feds have over a 90% conviction rate.
I agree that at the very least, he likely had knowledge about what was going on. However, the federal conviction rate, which appears to be 80-90%, has nothing to do with whether a particular individual is guilty.
The point is the feds do not bring charges unless they have an airtight case. Have you read the indictment? It's pretty stinging.

I don't think people are asking just for Vick to "suffer" on this... I think those of us that care about animals do see this as a bigger problem. Vick is just bringing the problem to light for many who don't know about it. Happens all the time when a famous person gets involved in something-suddenly there is media hype about a pre-existing problem. IMO, if there is any light to come out of this, it is that people are talking about dogfighting and how disgusting it is. Just like how with poor Maximus (the dog burned on LI), Steve Levy is now adding more officiers and money to humane policing.

Charges get dropped all the time. Also, the standard of proof to issue an indictment is much lower than the standard for conviction.
I'm not saying he's innocent, but the high federal conviction rate doesn't automatically mean he's guilty. The past success of federal prosecutors have nothing to do with the guilt or innocence of a particular defendant.
I don't doubt that the prosecutors believe they have a strong case, especially if this ends up going to trial. I just don't think Vick's guilt or innocence can be inferred from conviction rates in other cases.

A whole bunch of us are CONSTANTLY screaming for the end of animal cruelty in every measure. The problem is that most people who are not involved do not take notice until a very public person is involved in it.
