Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

Gianna is refusing any kind of meat, she just wings it off her tray and won't let us feed it to her either.

Does anyone else's 1 year do/did this?

This is okay nutritionally right?

What can I do?

DS does the same thing. He smells it and turns his head. The only meat he would eat is from the jar and it was the apples and chicken, pears and chicken or turkey and sweet potato's. I told my ped and she didn't seem to concerned about it.

Christopher was like this around 1 as well. Now, he's nearly two and if I give him a meal with meat, vegetables, and a starch, the meat is the first thing he eats and then he asks for more. Chat Icon It could just be a phase. As long as she's getting her nutrition from other sources, it's perfectly fine.

Alex is 2 and still eats no meat. I can sneak it in a quesadilla or in sauce but that is it. He won't eat a piece of chicken if it was the last food on earth. He says "no meat".

Ava is 2 years and 10 months and has never eaten meat.

When we went to McDonalds last week, she saw a picture of a giant burger and says "EHHHHH, it's poop"!!!

I try not to stress, maybe she plans on being a vegetarian..

Try to keep up with the green veggies and yogurt.

Re: Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

Don't stress over it, that's the most important thing. They somehow always get what they need to eat. Ava will be raised on chicken only. We will not give her red meat, as we do not eat it, and she rejects the chicken sometimes. I just know that it's timeto switch up the menu, then. But she's gone on hunger strikes for days before, and I just take what my ped. says to heart, "When she's hungry, she'll eat."
And she does.
Maybe try cooking it with something flavorful. Ava ate a gigantic portion of chicken breast last night because it had been grilled with bbq sauce on it. THen, tonight, she refused to eat a roasted chicken breast because it was too plain. When I dipped it in the gravy from the pan, she ate it up.
Try meat sauce for pasta, turkey meatloaf, meatballs. Add garlic and some spices to make it more appealing to eat. I wouldn't eat plain chicken, so I can expect that Ava wouldn't either, ya know?

Re: Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

Emily refused meat for the longest time. Only recently has she been really liking chicken nuggets, and with that it's only purdue chicken nuggets, she won't take anything else.

I do try to give her beans a few times a week and she will take tofu as well. She also gets protien from milk, cheese and yogurt. A lot of other products have protien.

I always offer it to her, and she never takes it, but I always hope that maybe one day she will.

Thanks EveryoneChat Icon

We give her meatballs, meatloaf, grilled chicken, turkey, basically all meat on the softer side, she'll pick around the meat or fling it off her tray.

The kid does def love any kind of Pasta-made any way-ziti with ricotta, plain, with cheese, with sauce, cheese, yogurt, grilled cheese, and fruits.

i guess i will just keep offering it up different ways, I'm glad the summer is coming cause we love grilled veggies, she ate up her grilled zucchini today with dinner.

I just wanted to make sure this is a normal thingChat Icon

Try try againChat Icon

Re: Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

I have that problem with my 7 year old son. He refuses to eat meat. I just give him a lot of peanut butter for protein. I also give him eggs. He has been like this since he was younger then 1 and it gets so frustrating. Recently we were at Chilis and he asked for a burger. My jaw dropped. He took 4 bites and said ok I'm done. I was so scared that night his tummy would hurt but it didn't but he hasn't asked for any kind of meat since.

He was so good at finding meat that the tiniest pieces of chicken in soup he would find and spit the whole thing out.

Good luck trying!!!

Re: Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

When I was a toddler, I never wanted to eat meat. Actually, I am still a vegetarian. I don't know what it is, but I can not get a piece of meat down my throat! (Hey, stop- you perverts! Chat Icon ) Anyway....My mom said she used to give me scrambled eggs for protein.

I think your kids will be fine. Maybe they'll grow out of it, maybe they won't. Do they have a problem drinking milk? Hey, they should invent a children's protein shake.

Yes my DD would much prefer a carbohydrate. She flings her meat as well. We just keep trying and if we are lucky she will eat a few pieces of a turkey burger or grilled chicken.

DD eats no meat or chicken and the Pediatrican said it was fine just to make sure she has other protiens like beans and eggs and she likes those. I was the same way as a child and became a vegeterian early on.

Re: Won't eat meat at all?-Moms of older babies..

Can someone give me some ideas/list of things non meat that a 1 year old can eat that are considered alternative protein sources?

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but I just want to make sure she's getting what she needs since she's is 75% off of formula.

Thank you!

ETA: Doc won't give her vitamins yet either.
