Wood floor in kitchen
Talk to me about wood floor in kitchen- do you have? Prefer it? If you have- is it same color as rest if wood floors in house or do you have a contrast? Do you have wood kitchen cabinets too?
TIA,

Re: Wood floor in kitchen
Don't have it. I would be worried about leaks and water damaging the wood. Have you looked into the tiles that look like wood?

Wood floor in kitchen
I went back and forth on this for a long time when we did our kitchen. We ended up getting the tile that looks like wood, and we put radiant heat underneath. We love it!

Wood floor in kitchen
Love it, I have 4 inch white oak planks and it continues through the entire house. Been there for over 10 years and there is NO damage, I do have a little mat in front of he sink, but I drip water alll the time from sink to dishwasher and just wipe up. I have wooden cabinets too, they are similar colors. They are the same color through out the entire house. A natural color with a satin finish I think?

Wood floor in kitchen
we have random width wide plank white oak throughout our first floor-great room (living/dining),kitchen, hall, bedrooms and one bathroom. We've had it about 4 years, I think it looks great and I think its so much easier than tile. The floor is stained a medium brown our cabinets are a medium maple.

Re: Wood floor in kitchen
We have a dark bamboo floor in the kitchen and dining room, with lighter wood cabinets. Been there for about 8 years, and no damage. For the most part, if there is enough water damage to ruin a wood floor, it will also damage a tile floor. Water can still get between the grout in tile and damage the floor beneath. I had that happen in my bathroom. Tile floor, but the toilet leaked, and I had to replace the underlayment and the entire floor.

Re: Wood floor in kitchen
We have laminate wood flooring. It's beautiful, easy to install, inexpensive, and most importantly- waterproof! My DH installs wood floors for a living so I left floors up to him and I love it. I highly recommend it.
ETA: Picture. Don't mind the mess, we were renovating the entire place before moving in.
ETA: Sorry, it's actual vinyl flooring, not laminate!

Wood floor in kitchen
We had it it in a townhouse we rented and I hated it. It was light oak and showed everything. Now we have it in the house we purchased. It's darker and since we have open concept it is the same color as every other room. We have mostly white cabinets but our island is dark cabinets. I love it now. Doesn't show as much dirt and stains.

Add me to the list. Love and prefer it. Knock on wood (no pun intended), never had an issue.

Re: Wood floor in kitchen
We ripped up the tile and added hardwood to match the rest of the house when we redid the kitchen.

Wood floor in kitchen
I have an open layout- living room, dining area, kitchen all in one and I have hardwood throughout.
We had a pipe break under the kitchen sink back in September and needed the floors redone. They had to gut my kitchen to do it. The replaced all of the damaged planks and refinished the rest. I can't even tell what's new and what's old. However, they did damage the cabinets and granite so I ended up getting a brand new kitchen out of it.
Insurance covered everything, including our 6 week hotel stay and all meals.

Re: Wood floor in kitchen
We have wood in our kitchen. We have an open floorplan with wood in the surrounding rooms so it was hard to do anything else. I have seen houses with a floating rectangle of tile for the kitchen and wood surrounding but it's not my preference for an open floorplan. It has been almost 2 years now and no issues -- its way easier to clean because there are no grout grooves to clean. We just wipe up spills immediately which you should really do anyway. We do have wood cabs but we have dark wood floors and warm white cabs. We considered a dark island but opted against it because of the dark floors.
