Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
So, when I started to play, I played the words that I knew. Sometimes, while doing this, I would make a 2 or 3 letter word that I didn't know. I would hit play and the words would go through. Then, I started to use a word finder site and I would plug in the letters to see what words I could make and also see the 2 and 3 letter words that I had no idea existed. The game then turned into a game of strategy and I play like this with many friends. Hubby and his friend are always getting on my case. "You are a cheater! You should only play words you know! You have an unfair advantage!" I explain that I am upfront about using the word finder and that it is nowhere near some of the real cheats that I have heard of. (There is an app where you take a picture of the game board and it calculates all the possible moves you can make and where to put the tiles!-What's the point in playing?) When I point out that I used to make words I didn't know before I used the word finder, they say that it's different because I experimented with the tiles on the board.
So tell me, my fellow Words with Friends addicts, what say you?

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
i think its fine to use a site like that for help once in a while... if you have a ton of crazy letters... idk how often you use it tho
ETA: but i agree with your DH that ultimately it is cheating.

LOL Hate to say it, but I agree with your hubby... That would be cheating in my book too... Yes, I too experiment with letters on the board, but if I end up making a word this way, at least its because of my doing... Not a computer program

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
i would only use it if i couldn't think of any possible words with what i have, i sometimes can't think of anything and just put something that sounds like a word and try it, sometimes its good sometimes its not

I agree with dh. Whats the point of playing if youre not really the one playing? Its like theyre playing against the computer.

I do that sometimes as well and I totally feel like I'm cheating. Sorry, I agree with DH, although you should continue to use this strategy!

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
IMO, That's kinda like cheating. I also plug in a few letters to see if it creates a word and many times, it creates a word I've never heard of. But to use an 'unjumbler' in scrabble is cheating.
BTW, no one knew QI was a word till this app! LOL

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
It all depends on if the people you are playing with agree on the terms of it. If you're going be Scrabble rules, it's not allowed. If you're playing strategy, then I suppose it's fine as long as everyone agrees to it.
I make up words all of the time to see if they work. But for the record, I knew QI was a word from playing scrabble. In fact, my DH & I played Scrabble only once. I used EM and he refused to accept it was a word even though it was in the Scrabble dictionary.

Cheating.I completely agree.
Using a word finder is not playing agains YOU. It's plYing againstba computer.
Everyone I know will place tiles on the board to see if something works. The reason that's NOT cheating is EVErYONe has that SAME advantage.
But going to a site that helps you finds words is cheating.
Your DH is right.

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
I'm going to eta that I do, commonly, look up the 2 letter words list on the net while playing.
If one was playing scrabble it's a resource available. So I don't consider that cheeti g at all.
As with PP , I knew qi was a word too.

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
crap ok, ok, I'm a cheater! I admit it. I just started a game with hubby's friend and promised not to use the word finder. --but I told him that any word that I learned through my cheating is now mine to use!

IMO. It is cheating
I have a friend who plays like this and honestly it drives me NUTS. I will ask her what the word means and she doesn't even know.

i dont think knowing what the word means matters... there are words that i see other people make that i try to remember if i see the opportunity to use them...

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
Using the site is cheating :). Yóur plugging in the letters and it is creating a word for you. The sites usually say, "words with friends cheat" haha.....I've done it before to get Triple words or letters to beef up a score...but it's a cheat, not a skilled strategy in my book too

Re: Words with Friends disagreement with hubby...
It's definitely cheating. I've built my word bank from playing other people. I don't think it's cheating to try different letters and see if it works when you hit submit.

I think it is cheating... That's why I no longer play against DH- he does the same thing! I'm forever on his case over it.

Yes, you're cheating!
It would be no different that doing an open book test. Or look for words in a dictionary.
FYI to my FB friends.... I don't do that!

Yes, I am a cheater! From now on, I will have 2 separate types of games. Words with (cheater) Friends and Words with (honest) Friends!

I'm on DH's side! I play several games like Word and Scrabble and sometimes, the words that come up I know they searched! No doubt about it! I always play just using the letters I have and what words I can make!
