Re: Working Moms - did you cut down your hours when you had a baby?
I work 4 days a week in the office and 1 day a week from home. Most of the time I don't have much work to do from home because I try my best to get it all done during the other 4 days. I did not take a pay cut.
I talked to my boss about 3 weeks before I was due to come back to discuss me working 1 day from home.
He seemed very open to it, but I think it helped that I worked from home a couple of days a week during the last 7 weeks of my pregnancy. He knew I would do whatever it took to get my work done.
I think it is best to ask now, rather than wait.

Re: Working Moms - did you cut down your hours when you had a baby?
I used vacation days to return on a PT basis (returned when Ryan was 4 months and worked 3 days a wk until he was 6 months - then 4 days until he was about 10 months).
I am hoping to go to 4 days a wk when #2 comes b/c my day is long.
I don't stay late anymore - before DS, I could be at the office til 10-11PM. Now I leave at 5:40/6ish depending on my day.
With the commute, I'm still out of the house from 8:15- 7 or so.

Re: Working Moms - did you cut down your hours when you had a baby?
I went from a 37.5 hour working week to a 28 hour working week, thats 9-5 Tuesday - Friday, I have every Monday off, come hell or high water...I don't work on a Monday, nor do I take any calls, or do any work after 5 pm. I walk out that door at 5 pm and its my responsibility to ensure I manage my workload to leave at 5 pm. Everyone else leaves at 5.30 pm. I took a 20% paycut, and I would take another 20% paycut if I could work 3 days a week, we have a smallish mortgage.
I still get my 25 days a year holiday (pro rata) and all 6 bank holidays.

I wish I had that option, but not with woking for the City of New York. Good luck asking for less hours. I wouldn't mention the pay cut though. Let them throw out a number to you first!

I didn't cut down my hoursl. I definitely don't stay as late as I used to unless I have a meeting or deadline b/c I have to pick DS up from daycare. I also come in earlier now.
