Worrying about the effects of fertility meds?

I'm relatively new to this board... will be starting progesterone sometime soon due to a short luteal phase. I got my rx yesterday and after reading the insert, I'm a little worried. I see all these possible side effects (blood clots, cancer, death), and then possible effects on a fetus as well.
Did anyone else worry about the long term effects of the medications they're taking? I'm wondering if I'm just over thinking things.

I often think about the long term side effects. However, most medications we take have side effects and doctors prescribe them anyway b/c they feel that the benefits will outweigh the side effects. The bottom line is, I want to get preggo and that's not possible without these treatments, so what choice do I really have??

Best of luck to you. Definitely do your research on any medications/treatments. Only you can decide what is right for you!!

I am in the same boat as you...starting progesterone soon due to short LP. Reading the side effects scares the cr@p out of me. However, I definitely want to have a baby, and if this is what it is going to take, for me I think the potential benefit outweighs the risks. I defineitly understand where you're coming from though, and I don't think you're overthinking it.

Luckily the only med I ad to take to get prengnant was the progesterone although we were just about to move onto IVF.

Like the pp said the benefits outweigh the risks. I don't think I would've ever gotten pregnant without the progesterone support because mine was so low. You do what you have to do and just hope your time comes sooner rather than later I suppose Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I heard on this board that the risks in the progesterone pamphlet are not applicable to the progesterone that you are actually taking. I believe they are risks associated with synthetic progesterone. Your Dr. prescribes you natural progesterone, so you would not have those risks but they have to list them because it is progesterone. Ask your RE about it.
