I think this happened last year or the year before that.... And I think he did get the XBox but not from his parents...

It is not funny. Its cruel. What kid doesnt try to sneak a peek at his or her presents. Putting the video on You Tube is simply humiliating. Id never do that to my child. Shame on them.

That was really awful.  Peeking or not---- why would they make him wait a whole week before getting that? The look on his face was terrible. If that were my child I don't think I could've knowingly put him through that... Poor little boy...

i can't lie--i really just laughed at this prank--cause my family is the kind to pull something like this to teach me a lesson. 
matter of fact, this morning my brother pranked my niece. he told her that he was buying her a sack of potatoes for christmas cause she kept asking and asking and asking what she was getting. (she had begged for an ipod nano). sure enough--we gave her a bag this morning...told her it was the most AWESOME gift and she wasn't ready for it....and she pulled a sack of potatoes out of the bag. she was annoyed at first but then laughed.
she did get the iPod nano at the end..so i guess thats diferent than making them wait a week.

Do I think they should have recorded it and posted it on YouTube? No definitely not....
While Im sure that things could have been handled differently...without knowing the full story...Im not going to judge them. Perhaps this child has a pattern of behaviour that caused his parents to reach this point..who knows..

As much as I find sick things funny, I personally can't deal with any type of prank where someone believes something else to be true. It doesn't sit well with me. But when it comes to kids, I really can't deal with it.
The adults will move on and laugh about that "one christmas when..." But this kid will always remember the devastation. Even if he did get the Xbox, the magic of opening THAT one gift that you were so excited to get is gone, and will always be tainted with this memory, IMO...

Even if the kid had a pattern of behavior that his family found problematic, pulling something like this on him won't teach him a lesson. It will make him angry and resentful.
Sure kids are malleable but they DO remember everything. I can remember forms of discipline my parents used when I was younger than that that were actually effective and useful. Imagine if they pulled that one on me?
We wonder why so many kids do horrible things at young ages ending up in therapy and in the news later in life having done horrible things to others. With parents like that, it is no wonder. It starts somewhere.

Definitely not funny at all. I could barely even look at that kid's tears at the end.
MIGHT have been a little funny if they tricked him like that but gave it to him right after.. not funny to have just laughed at his disappointment and left it at that... that is just plain mean.

My family is similar too .. so I found it amusing. I couldn't do it to my own kids though.. I am too much of a mush and the boo boo lip and crying would have made me feel AWFUL. If it WERE me I would have given him the gift 3 seconds later.
We wrapped Robbie's Nintendo DS Lite in rolls and rolls of packing paper. It looked like a giant pillow and when he first opened it he was like "HE GAVE ME PAPER????" It was pretty funny.

Awww I'm sorry, but that is just mean - at least they should have given him the xbox right afterwards - NOT a week later, like literally RIGHT after this happened if they wanted to play a prank. The boys face is just sooooo  to watch.

Very mean. I don't find that funny at all. If they can't afford it the should have explained that to him earlier, but not playing with his feelings that way. It's something I wouldn't do to my son.
