i can't lie--i really just laughed at this prank--cause my family is the kind to pull something like this to teach me a lesson. 
matter of fact, this morning my brother pranked my niece. he told her that he was buying her a sack of potatoes for christmas cause she kept asking and asking and asking what she was getting. (she had begged for an ipod nano). sure enough--we gave her a bag this morning...told her it was the most AWESOME gift and she wasn't ready for it....and she pulled a sack of potatoes out of the bag. she was annoyed at first but then laughed.
she did get the iPod nano at the end..so i guess thats diferent than making them wait a week.
My family is similar too .. so I found it amusing. I couldn't do it to my own kids though.. I am too much of a mush and the boo boo lip and crying would have made me feel AWFUL. If it WERE me I would have given him the gift 3 seconds later.
We wrapped Robbie's Nintendo DS Lite in rolls and rolls of packing paper. It looked like a giant pillow and when he first opened it he was like "HE GAVE ME PAPER????" It was pretty funny.
My family is the same way too. I thought it was funny, though Im' sure my family wouldn't have waited a week to give me the present. By the end of giving out the presents my parents would have given me the XBox.
I do think making him wait a week was over the top.

Definitely not funny at all. I could barely even look at that kid's tears at the end.
MIGHT have been a little funny if they tricked him like that but gave it to him right after.. not funny to have just laughed at his disappointment and left it at that... that is just plain mean.
ITA...not funny at all. What cruel parents.

That's just a cruel, cruel thing to do to your child or any child at all. Even if they gave it to him a week later.

That was very sad to watch. The poor kid was so excited when he saw the Xbox and then the tears at the end were just devastating. I couldn't do that to my kid. My Dad once gave me a mouse first to make me think "what the heck", but then the next gift I opened was the computer. To bring the kid to tears like that was very cruel.

It is not funny. Its cruel. What kid doesnt try to sneak a peek at his or her presents. Putting the video on You Tube is simply humiliating. Id never do that to my child. Shame on them.
I agree. I didn't even watch the video.

I think his parents should be ashamed of themselves. Putting it on You Tube was uncalled for and embarrassing for that child. Even if he was peaking....they could have at least had the X-Box wrapped up in a Macy's shirt box then or something similar and given it to him immediately after.

I definitely think it was mean and I don't think I could ever do that to a child... but I really, really do not think the child will be scarred for life as a result of pulling this "prank."
That said, I can't believe they put the video on YouTube... Poor kid.
