Would a pacifier really satisfy a hungry baby?
many times DD has only eaten an hour or so ago and she gets fussy...then the pacifier helps her to calm down and sometimes she even falls asleep....if she was really hungry wouldn't it just be a temporary fix?

She is being soothed from the sucking, not the eating. Very common for babies...they all have a natural instinct to suck and that is why lots of nb are so happy on the boob.

My DD would spit the binky across the room if I try to offer it to her when she's hungry, and then give me a "who are you kidding here?" look

I agree with that! And my baby is one of those who has a paci at all times other than a boob in his mouth

OK good... sometimes I feel like I am depriving her from eating...but perfect example....she just spit the paci out and is just fine looking all around

DS is not a big paci baby, but he takes one when I sooth him to get him to nap during the day. He doesn't need it at night though. For him its the soothing relief to get him to nap. When he's fully awake/hungry/etc he wants no part of them.

Elizabeth was the same when she was itty bitty.
