Re: Would you...
I tell my niece & nephews there's no reason an adult stranger should need help from a kid...same thing would apply here... I'd probably walk over to investigate what this guy's deal was but I'm in law enforcement and would have some questions for him

Would you...
Ha! He made it very clear he wasn't flirting! At first I kinda just looked at him speechless. He was a cute guy probably 25 tops, and the momma in me considered helping him for a second. And then I thought of the possible things that could go wrong and my instincts told me to just be on my way and get back to my own family. I have a 4 year old who could use help with mittens but a grown ass man should be able to handle this.
When I told him No, he was flabbergasted at MY rudeness!! He was like, "REALLY?! It's not like I'm gonna rape you! I mean you're cute and all but honestly, you're not my type." ,!!!! Can u even believe ?
Now I'm old enough to be his mom. Maybe I just look like a nice lady who'd be helpful. But 1- would he have asked me if I were a man? No! And 2- what grown man even uses the word rape to a woman in a parking lot in the dark?? And 3- are we raising a generation of kids that can't problem solve on their own? SMH

Just going by what you said he responded with, you made the right choice.
He sounds unstable from that comment!

Re: Would you...
Pretend to not hear him and walk very fast. That is not something that an average person should be asking a stranger. So either he was a) young and hitting on you or b) crazy person who is capable of anything. So I would go fast and far away….he could have 2 cups of bleach in there and throw it in your face to take you down. NO WAY!!!

Re: Would you...
once at a gas station this guy called over to me and ask to help unscrew his gas cap his hands were numb from cold and he couldn't do it(his back door was open and he was standing right by it)......I pretended not to hear him but all of a sudden he started to charge over to me.........I jumped in my car and took off (without putting gas in my car at all) I believe he was going to push me in that car and drive away
always trust your instincts and RUN!!!!!

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I tend to want to help people. Especially if his hands were holding coffee cups, what was he going to do? I would've helped him. Probably unless I felt unsafe in the first place. But in a public area, right in front of stores, I would've helped.

Re: Would you...
Holy crap I can't believe he said that to you!!! Who says that to a woman anywhere? Let alone in a dark parking lot! Maybe I'm cynical but a grown man does not ask a woman walking alone in a dark parking lot for help with his mittens. He just doesn't. It is beyond bizarre. Like you said, had it been a man walking by he would not have stopped the man to ask for help. Is he so incapable of figuring out that he has to put the drinks down and do it himself?? Nothing about this scenario sits well with me. What a creep!
And that other story - shit, that is so scary!!!

Who knows what could've been in those coffee cups? Like a pp said, could've been bleach. There could have been an accomplice waiting for a signal, or hiding out in the parking lot or vehicle. I also wouldn't trust or rely on patrons in the nearby shops to be paying attention to what's going on outside.
I get what you're saying, why shouldn't we just be able to help another person in need (I personally don't think a grown man asking for help with mittens to be a rational request for help at all) but unfortunately we live in a world where good gestures sometimes turn into bad situations and I don't blame anyone for putting their own safety ahead of helping a stranger. Even if it was a genuine request, you just never know anymore what people are capable of. I just think a grown man should be able to figure out how to solve the mitten dilemma on his own without asking a woman for help... it's not like it was a life or death situation and he was bleeding out. His fingers were cold. lol
OP was he standing near a car or in the middle of the lot/by a store? What was he doing specifically?

2 without a second thought.
His reaction was questionable, I can't believe he did not get it. You definitely did the right thing.

2! If you've ever seen "Silence of the Lambs" that's how buffalo bill dragged that girl into his van, he asked her for help and pretended like he was hurt with a cast on. I know it's a movie but still.... hell no!

# 2 Safety comes first.
He could have solved the problem himself by putting the cups down on a car, any car, for the moment it took him to flip his mittens.
What guy wears mittens anyway?

Um, no. #2.
That coffee was too hot enough to keep his fingers warm anyway.

I can't stop laughing at this comment.
It's so true though. But hysterical.

Re: Would you...
I'd pretend I didn't hear him & if I'm close enough to my car quickly get in & lock the door... if I'm far from my car or have to pass right by him to get to it, I'd go back into a public place & try to find security to walk me to my car. It sounds like there's something wrong with this person, not a normal request of a stranger. I've seen too many shows on Investigation Discovery channel to know this could end with her being thrown in the trunk of her car in a split second & never being seen again. I wouldn't take a chance.
