Would you allow daughter to have playdate with boy?

Throughout the years, in the beginning of the school year DS wants to play with boys and if we go to the park he only wants to play with boys, but as the school year goes by, he usually gravitates to playing with girls. We recently sent notes to 2 of his friends home with our contact information to see if they'd be interested in a playdate. One girl's father said no and one family said yes (they're in first grade).

During the nice months I tend to set up playdates at the park so I don't have to clean up the house and they can get some energy out running around. (Additionally, I'm not sure if a girl would be interested in DS' toys, but that's a sexist thing to say - SORRY!).

If you have a daughter, what would you think about a boy asking for a play date?

My 8 year old Ds has play dates with girls. One of his friends loves minecraft and more "boyish" games and they get along really well. Other times, he will run around outside with friends

Considering the fact that my DD does have playdates with a boy frequently, I'd have to say yes, I'd allow it... Chat Icon

Why not? My daughter has several friends who are boys and meet at the park.

Just curious- did the father give a reason why he wouldn't let his DD have a play date with your son?

No - he just told his daughter no and she told my son that she can't.

I have no idea of their home life so I'm wondering if maybe it was just a flat no or maybe he's a single dad and that's not something he wants to get involved with.

We've never had trouble with DS having playdates with girls when he was younger, so I wasn't sure if it was b/c he's getting older or just that particular family wasn't comfortable with it.

Absolutely. I don't see why not. They're in elementary school...they're so young there's really nothing to worry about. I wouldn't do sleepovers, but playdates absolutely yes!

Yes: we have friends who were old coworkers that live nearby. My DS loves to play with their girls (a year older & a year younger than him). He used to only play with boys at school, but he has grown close to a girl now (she spat on him at the beginning of the year.... You never know!).

Don't worry about toys: they all play with blocks, play pretend, play with cars and trucks at those ages.

Oh ok. Could be that they are busy and just don't have time right now in their schedule etc. Could be a million things.
I was just curious if he said, no, because it's a boy.

Heck yeah. We've even had sleepovers with the "opposite sex." My youngest son's best friend is a girl and we're close with the family, so we don't think twice about sleepovers.

I encourage my oldest DD to befriend the boys because the girls at school tend to be all about drama these days. Chat Icon (Some girls can be so nasty!) So my DD goes to sports camp with all boys. Chat Icon

I also think the fact that I have 2 girls and 2 boys changes the dynamic for my kids because they tend to play with each others' friends.

And to be honest, I'm more concerned about the individual and how they behave overall than whether they are male or female. My oldest daughter (soon to be 10) has some wonderful male friends and I'd have them sleep over before some of the female "friends" she knows, who are unfortunately heading down the wrong path. Same. My DS has more girl friends than boy friends so he always has playdates with girls. I never thought twice about it and wouldn't hesitate if my DD wanted a playdate with a boy (would never happen but still Chat Icon)

My youngest DD is 9 and in 3rd grade. One of her best buddies is a boy and they have play dates often at each others homes. I don't see an issue at all... I will say my older DD has never had a 'boy' friend at all growing up, so it must just be personality.

One of my closest friends until 4th grade (when I switched schools) was a boy. We even did sleepovers in a tent in his backyard and mine when we were in 3rd grade. We used to build forts together. I was a bit of a tom boy.

Absolutely..

However if he's rough then no

But seeing as my kid loves science, robotics, star wars, turtles and bugs.. yeah.. I can't see why not. LOL

She has boy friends she plays with and talks circles over them on cars, shows and star wars.

My daughter is the girl that likes to play with boys. She's having a hard time now because the boys in her class don't always want to play with her. She loves sports, legos, minecraft, and star wars. She has playdates with one boy, but she tends to stick to playing with boys at school. I would not have a problem setting up a playdate with a boy.

If you read my original post you'd see that my son asked 2 girls for a play date. One said yes and one dad told his daughter no without a reason. I didn't think it was a big deal to ask for a play date and didn't know if other dads have issues with it.

I have and do have boy girl play date at my house and others house. I think it might just be that particular parent rather than anything you or your child has done.
