Re: Would You Be Offended If (Halloween Related)

I DO celebrate Halloween in the sense that I allow DS to go trick or treating and dress up, but I limit it to non scary/non evil things for religious reasons.

You'll never catch DS dressed as a vampire, or see a skeleton hanging in my house...

With that said, I dont love the invites, but I dont think I would be "offended", rather just taken back.

I would still allow my child attend your partyChat Icon

I have to admit...I was a little taken back by it. I wasnt sure what it was at first and TOTALLY get your idea after reading what. Still...I dont love it. Caqnt place specifically why...but its a little freaky to me. Not too sure what other peoples takes would be upon opening their childs schoolbag. Also, gotta remember those that dont do Halloween...KWIM

The question was the ones that don't do halloween would they be offended. Those that do celebrate, I'm not worried about offending them since a skeleton IS halloween Chat Icon

I do Halloween every year.
I sent one just like it but it was a cut off rubber finger with a ribbon tied around it for do not forget.
I had someone who did not celebrate-they were not offended, They just said their son can't make it.
People celebrate xmas and get invited to xmas parties and so on. I wouldn't worry about it, its all in fun

I'm not offended on a Halloween sense (I do celebrate Halloween and think it's cute), but what if somebody just lost a family member and the last time they saw them was at the wake in an open casket?

Since DH lost his father 6 months ago, I think he'd flip.

No offense, but I think that is a little bit of a stretch. I mean, I've lost family members recently and I absolutely would not even think that with a child's invitation, it has NOTHING to do with me or my family.

Sorry about your FILChat Icon

how old are the kids??? The only thing i dont like about the invite is the saying "we're dying to have you" on the side. Im not sure how appropriate that is for little kids. jmo.

I think it's an awesome invite. I never saw one like it before.

Offended? Well, people don't need an invitation to be offended if they don't celebrate Halloween. They can just disregard the invitation and not send DC. Otherwise, I think they make a big deal out of it... IMHO!

Heck! If they are offended they won't be able to go anywhere soon with a lot of houses decorated with Halloween.

Hmm...tough one. I would hope people would be offended-- if anything, they'd just think "hmm, it's not my taste" and toss it if they didn't plan on sending their kids.

I love them and even at 1 Lucas would love the toy - but we are biased because we celebrate Halloween and Lucas likes anything he put in his mouth Chat Icon

It's nice that you are trying to be flexible - is there anyway to find out from the teacher if there are children in the class that do not celebrate events such as Halloween? I'm thinking the teacher might have a heads up at this point.

Do you know for sure that there are children in the class who do NOT celebrate? If not, I would ask the teacher. Most likely she will know, especially if the kids have been in the same school for years now.

I think it's really cute though!!!

I wouldn't be offended, but I was a little taken aback. Yes, It would offend those that don't celebrate, but I was also thinking about people who recently had a death in the family? I think a box full of spiders would be better!

I don't think anyone would be offended, but I do think they'd be taken aback a little by this invitation. When I first looked at it, it did creep me out a little...but then again that is the purpose of Halloween...sort of a creepy holiday. It depends how daring you are...

Re: Would You Be Offended If (Halloween Related)

I think it's cute...and maybe that's why I wouldn't imagine people being offended. I feel a bit clueless but what does it being a skeleton have to do with not liking it for religious reasons? I mean, if you don't celebrate is one thing but why be offended by a skeleton? Not judging or questioning anyones beliefs, I just don't understand the sentiment and am curious. Someone enlighten me.

Re: Would You Be Offended If (Halloween Related)

While I love halloween (it's one of my favorite times to decorate Chat Icon ) it's hard to put myself in the place of someone that does not celebrate.

I don't think the invite would offend anyone - I think you'll get most of the reactions as on the boards. It will be some people's tastes and not some others.
