Would you be upset if your MIL said this:
"Maybe it's time you got your kids out of their routine"

I guess it would depend on how the rest of the conversation was going.

I agree. It would also depend on the history.
I also think it's helpful to take a step back & see if she has a point. She may or may not. Personally I think a routine is the best thing for a child.

I have a family member who "questions" our routine all the time just because it wasn't the same as hers. Don't sweat it. You are doing what's best.
What was it in reference to (if you want to share)?

I'd be annoyed if my MIL said that to me, mostly b/c I don't think it's really her place to tell you that - But what was the rest of the conversation?
My friend's Mom said this to my friend (her son) - but she said it b/c my friend's wife was SO strict w/ the baby's routine that she NEVER saw ANYONE but her mother - She woke up in the AM after my friend left for work and she had her in bed before my friend got home. - He worked a normal schedule, nothing crazy -
Any time someone would want to see the baby or the paternal Grandmother would want her to visit ( 4 blocks away) the wife would say "she has to nap in her crib, she has to eat in our kitchen" etc etc etc. - It got to the point that the kid was aftraid to leave the house and wouldn't go to ANYONE but her mother ........
So, the MIL said it to HER son hoping he'd speak to his wife about it - I don't think she'd EVER say it to the DIL though -

Re: Would you be upset if your MIL said this:
well it was said to DH and I believe it had something to do with SIL watching the kids when we went to the concert Sunday night and she had to put the kids to bed.
ETA: Like Barb, I too believe children thrive on routine and knowing what is coming and what is expected.

I would be....I don't like when people tell me what to do with DD. Unless I ask I don't want your advice.
