Re: Would you buy a home near a cemetery?

When my aunt and uncle lived in Queens, their backyard bordered a cemetary.

There was a big crypt behind their garage. The name on it was Kleinbaum.

My uncle always jokes and says the Kleinbaums were the best neighbors he ever had...they never had loud parties, they never parked in his driveway, and they never borrowed his tools.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you like the house, go for it. I think it's better than living next to a parking lot, a strip mall, a highway, a train station, a high school, ...!

i would not.

if u are planning on staying there just about forever and not reselling, then yeah go for it if it does not bother you.

in my opinion resale would be a bit more difficult because of the location.

I lioe quiet, private yards & I'm not creeped out by cemetaries at all, I find them peaceful & beautiful-so I voted yes. I think it probably does affect the resale value to some extent but as you said you are able to get it at a great price for the same reason you'd have to be willing to take that into consideration when coming up with your selling price down the road.
The bottom line is, if a good house is priced right, whether it be on a main road, next to a train or next to a cemetary it will sell. However, the less than perfect location will affect the price point.

Wouldn't bother me.

Whether I would buy the house would depend on the house and location/property layout, etc..

Like Kelly, I find old cemetaries to be quite peaceful and beautiful.

IMO I wouldn't. I get creeped out by them and could never live near one. However, if you are the type of person who is ok with them and living near it, then why not?

I wouldn't... I would be concerned about resale value.

How long has the house been on the market?

Nope, never. I get the creeps just driving by them. I cant imagine having to drive by one all the time coming and going to my own house.

I agree....I'm a chicken....it would creep me out.

I immediately thought no because of traffic and creepyness, but after reading your reply I would go for it!

go for it - nothing at the cemetary is going to go bumping in the night - dont let the creeps make you miss out on a house that would be great for you.

Re: Would you buy a home near a cemetery?

We lived one block away from Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, and we loved it. For one thing it's a gorgeous, historic cemetery and occasionally we would take walks through it, but the best part was that it attracted all kinds of birds that would then come to our yard too.

Maybe in the city it's different, but a cemetery wouldn't deter me from buying on LI either.

I live close to one, it doesn't bother me. Don't have to worry about neighbors making noise.
