No.
- Too much traffic to go in and out of your driveway - Too much noise - Resale value is not as good.

I won't but actually, I would be more put off from the house you are looking at by the promixity of the train. Unless I needed to use the train to get to work I wouldn't want to be that close to the train station.

Re: would you buy a home on a main rd? POLL
I live in Seaford on a main road. I have to say, that at first, I was not happy at all. But, 3 years later, its not as bad as I thought it would be. It has alot of good qualities- our road gets plowed out very quickly during snowstorms, it is really easy to tell people how to get to our house, etc. The noise is not a big deal at all. Once I close my front door, you cant even tell I live on a main road. Even when we are in the back yard, it is very peaceful.
In the end, the pro's outweighed the cons- so we went for it!

Honestly, I have to say Never! My ex lives on a main road and I hate it everytime I go there and I get really nervous with my DS being there also.

Not unless I had several acres, like the homes on Northern Blvd in Muttontown & Old Brookville.
LOL - these are the areas I thought that I would too! Even 108 in Cold Spring Harbor or Woodbury Road going into Huntington.

For those areas, I would buy a house in the median!
Some of these house have driveways that are 1/2 mile long, so I would more than likely buy a house there if I had the money.
Our street is a major cut through to get to 25A. The speed limit is 30 mph and they do a minimum of 60 mph! We don't have sidewalks on my block, so its not like we are out front to play with the kids, but I do have to say backing out of my driveway can be a challenge (its hilly, so when you look and don't see anyone, they come flying over the hill and bam, they are right there!).
That said, my next house will be on a tree lined street and no where near a major road!

Re: would you buy a home on a main rd? POLL
It definitely wouldn't be my first choice, and I would not want it because of safety for children, and I grew up always being able to play in the street and I would think that would be sad to miss out on that. However, we looked at a house in a great school district that was on the corner of a main street and a side street, which wasn't so bad.

Re: would you buy a home on a main rd? POLL
When we were looking for houses last year, we had a few things we would not budge on.
1. Must be on a side block, no main roads, and also can not be by any main highways like the 135 or southern state.
2. NO Corner houses
3. had to be at least 60x100 lot.
4. Must have a basement.
5. Must have attached garage.
6. Must not be anywhere near trains or fire houses.
With all these Musts we found our house in 3 weeks of looking!!!

Same here! No way!! We saw a great house in Seaford but again, too close to the main road and that is a big no-no for me!
