Would you do a 4-day work week for the summer if given the option?
I work at a university and our department is participating for the first time in the flexible summer schedule. I can't take part in it since i'm at the front desk and need to be here every day ( ) but I was surprised at how many people weren't taking advantage of the 4-day work week.
It's 4 10-hour days with either 1 hour or 1/2 hour for lunch and you get 1 full day off per week. You can choose your day off each week. May through August.
We have about 90 people in our dept and only about 15 are doing it.
Would you?

Yes for sure. Considering I work 10 hours a day minimum anyway.

Yep, but I already do it now
I work at a law firm and work a 4 day, 38 hour week
730am-530 pm with half hour lunches. I have Wednesdays off
Its great when there is a Monday holiday, I take the Tuesday off as a vacation day and get a 5 day weekend! I love it!!

Yes. IMO an extra 2 hours a day is not all that significant compared with an ENTIRE day off.

I assume there is no reduction in pay since it seems that people are just making up the 1 day's hours during the other 4 days, correct?
I guess it really depends on what people's schedules are like. Maybe some people need to be home by a certain time and their schedule and their family's schedules just won't allow that shift in working hours. I can see a lot of single people perhaps taking part but maybe not people with families who are often bound by others' schedules too.

It would depend on when you had to make up the 2 hours a day. If it HAD to be 9-7, I wouldn't do it, because I couldn't put DS to bed at night.
But if I could do 7-5 or even 6-4, I would do it.

I do it now and love it. i go in as early as possible, which is wither 5 or 6 am. so i'm out by 2 or 3 pm and still have time with my girls.

Yes, but I would hope to be able to come in early during the summer so I wasn't working too late on nice days!

YES!
I sort of do/have that now.
I will be back 5 days come Sept.
I cant wait to enjoy that one extra day off and be at the beach or do day trips with my kids.

I personally think it's totally worth it. I work for myself, so I work what evens out to about 10 hours per day (minus a "lunch break" that I give myself) Monday through Thursday, and then I give myself off on Fridays. I absolutely love it!

It's any 10 consecutive hours (with 1 or 1/2 hr for lunch) from 6:30am to 7pm. Some are doing 7am-5:30pm with 1/2 hr lunch, some are doing 8am-7pm with 1 hr lunch, etc...
But I thought most people would do it, esp b/c a lot are older with grown kids.
