Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I know many of your children had no reaction, but I know a good sum of them had the high fever.
Noahs Appointment is scheduled for the 10th of Dec. Making Two weeks( when fever usually hits) around Christmas eve.
I would rather NOT have him have a fever with all the commotion, and running around we do.
But I also dont want the Dr's office to think Im a nut job mom for postponing due to that.
TIA for opinions.

I say why not wait...do it after the holidays. It won't make a difference. Then you can rest easy. Or you could move it up?

Has he had a reaction to any of the other shots? Lily had a small fever with most of the other shots, but no reaction at all to the MMR....

I could call and try to move it up ( dont know WHY my brain didnt think of that. ) ....
The Dr's office was a little so-so with me waiting till 18 months to begin with, so I didnt want to postpone again and have them think I was just looking for an excuse.

I would either move it up - or push it back till January - just in case!

We did it last month and had no issues.
If you are really concerned, then I would call up now and say you didn't realize you had a conflict and you need to reschedule and I am sure the next date will be after the holidays.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Donna!!! Absolutely not!!! Cailen got soooo sick 2 weeks later - you do NOT want that on Xmas!!!!!!!
It was the sickest he ever has been. I never got scared by fever, but this was so scary. He was lethargic and his heart was racing.
Cailen had coxsacie around xmas last year and that sucked, but this - ugh....

I would try to avoid that. Sarah was really irritable for a good 2 wks after the MMR.

Thanks everyone.
Im not convinced he will react but I dont want a feverish baby with all the family obligations, so I'm just gonna postpone or move up. Hopefully its not a big deal.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I would postpone or move up. When Emma was scheduled to get hers, I told the ped. we were going away about 10 days after and she told us to hold off until we got back for the shot in case she got a fever. So I scheduled it about 3 weeks later. Of course she had no reaction, but that's Murphy's Law!

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I would either try to do it sometime in November, or get it done in January. If you feel weird telling them, just call and say you have to reschedule the appt---you dont have to say that that's the reason.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I would cancel. What's 2 weeks and the worry of him having a reaction right before the Holiday?
Just call and cancel. If they ask you to reschedule just tell them you have to check your calendar and will call them back. I do that all the time.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I'd postpone till after the holidays. Who cares if he has or hasn't had reactions to previous vaccinations? I'd rather be safe than sorry

Can you move it up to the week after Thanksgiving?
Just thinking after the holidays, he could have something brewing from relatives.
I'd rather have him as healthy as can be when he gets the shots, particularly if he's prone to reactions.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
I'm having the same scheduling issues. DD is getting the chicken pox shot in 2 weeks, which will be 2 weeks before Thanksgiving (which we go upstate for), and I'm nervous she'll have a reaction.
Then, I'm supposed to have her get the MMR a month after that, which brings us to 2 weeks before Christmas. Which I am definitely thinking isn't a great idea as DD usually gets a fever from shots. But I don't want to push it back too much later (already am delaying it from 15 months) b/c then it will mess up her 18 month shot schedule.
Donna-- I wouldn't get it before CHristmas, that's the way I'm leaning too.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
NO NO NO and NO!!! Donna can you wait until after the holidays to get it?
We got DD's MMR right before July 4th - and 9 days later she got 104 and a rash for 2-3 days so DH lost his vacation time he planned to take. I wouldn't chance it with a holiday that you care about. If it wasn't an important holiday I would say go ahead but not for something like Christmas. DD never had ANY reaction to a single shot she received before this - she also had a minor reaction to Chicken pox.

Re: Would you do the MMR 2 weeks before Christmas?
Im doing 2 days for christmas.. .. If i waited for after christmas i would have been way behind on vacs, my peds said they only do MMR in single dosages and dd should be okay.. so hopefully shes right.
eta: also baby #2 is due in feb.. not really sure what to do .. im taking her for appointmetn like scheduled and will discuss with peds again on if we shoud do the vac or not that day.
