Would you ever....
get a pet without your SO's okay?
Nothing against Jess, her new puppy is adorable...but I wouldn't dream of bringing home another animal without discussing it with DH first. Even Misty was a "decision" cuz we weren't in the house when the rescue told us about her.
Discuss.....

Re: Would you ever....
I have alot of pets, some of them a little unusual. I would never get one without talking to me DH first. However he basically knows when I really want something its hard to talk me out of it. Our pets are a huge responsibility that often falls on him building stuff for them or caring for them when I'm not home, I want him to feel like they are his pets too.

Same here. Getting a pet is a huge responsibility to both of us. I would need to let him know.

Re: Would you ever....
Either direction, DW and I wouldn't do that. We have a dog now, and we've already decided that after he passes (he's really old and showing his age... ), we're going to take a few years off without a dog. In a few years, when I'm ready for another one, there is no way I would ever bring one home with having her agree to it.... otherwise I'd have to build a dog house big enough for the dog AND me....

I am the only one who answered "It's worth a try!" !!!
I feel like a bad wife now!!!
The reason I said I would try is ONLY IF we were in a house, not while in our apartment. I would consider surprising him with a dog when we get a house. We've already discussed the kind of dog we want.

Re: Would you ever....
No. We have 2 puppies. We had to both agree on them, their name, etc....
We do that with all aspects of our life. Our decisions impact each other so it's only fair to ask the other person.

We've already discussed the kind of dog we want. you're not a bad wife at all! everyone is different. I just know that if I ever did that to my DH he would FREAK! we both love animals, but he would want to be completely involved in the whole process.
now if he wanted a dog or a cat REALLY badly and I knew which breed, maybe I would consider surprising him. but I should also say that my DH absolutely HATES surprises!

Re: Would you ever....
No, Dh would flip his s#it, First he is allergic to certain hair on cats and dogs, the more "fluffy" ones and second, he would kill me. Thats a big responsibility, we dont have to worry about much and the convience of not having to get someone to watch it if we go away.

Re: Would you ever....
I said other, because we have a cat, birds, and fish. I could see him buying a fish without discussing it with me, since it just goes in the tank and he takes care of the tank on his own. My birds already have a cage, and plenty of room, so if I brought another finch home it wouldn't be a big deal.
So it could happen, but it's uncharacteristic for us not to talk about it first since we basically talk about everything. But it would be more of just conversation than asking permission or making a decision.
But only for those two cases. Another cat, or a dog or something big, definitely we would discuss it first.

I would b/c I know that he really wants a dog. But if I wasn't sure of that, I wouldn't.

Re: Would you ever....
never. imo, its hugely irresponsible to do something like that. you both have to take care of a pet, whether it be dog, cat, hampster, etc.
there is no way i could do something like that.

Never! A dog requires the work and commitment of both people.
Plus, he wants a German Shepherd and I am NOT cleaning the mess of a big dog.

Re: Would you ever....
When I adopted my dog, my fiance (now my husband) really wasn't into it but said that it was OK. When Ibrought the dog home, he didn't like him at first and now he can't imagine his life without him.
I would not have gotten the dog if he was dead set against it.
