Never in a million. I wouldn't want him to do that to me so I wouldn't do it to him.

Same here. Getting a pet is a huge responsibility to both of us. I would need to let him know.

Exactly!!!

Yes, on these conditions...

we were in a house
we already had a dog together
it was a stray.

I wouldn't go out and SEEK a dog without him.

Another frog? Yes. A ferret? Yes.

A big pet? No, he'd have to be there.

Re: Would you ever....

considering I am the one that takes care of everything for the 1 pet we have.....

but seriously- he grew up with so many pets- he wouldn't care if I got another

but I would care- b/c like I said it would be more work for me- and I am already pushed to my limits

NEVER... I wouldn't dream of it... My mother on the other hand had done this more than once to my father and lets just say he didn't talk to her for months.

No, I would never do that. I know he wouldn't even question anything I asked with something like that, so I'd be sure to give the respect of asking him.

Re: Would you ever....

No way. DH and I are on completely opposite sides of the fence regarding pets. I want a dog. He doesn't - EVER. Fortunately, it is a non-option for us because our landlord doesnt allow them. No use in talking about it now. When we own a home and have our own "say-so" I STILL wouldn't do it without consulting him. It is a daily as well as long term commitment of time and money that even though we can certainly afford, is not worth the backlash that could possibly put a strain on my marriage.

However, I would and could donate money to rescue missions/operations so that they could afford to care for animals in need. That is all we are prepared to do right now.

Ditto, plus DH has some allergies to pets, so I know this would really upset him and it would be disrespectful to him.

Re: Would you ever....

Maybe...

There would have to be very specific circumstances though.

If we had no other pets (if for example we lost our dog) and I knew that we both still really wanted one and the right pet just happened to come into the picture. That would be the only way. And if he were to do that to me, under those circumstances, I would probably be okay with it too.

But generally speaking - NO.

Re: Would you ever....

I adopted Lucy without telling my boyfrienda t the time - we were living together and had talked about another cat, but nothing was agreed upon.

No, I wouldn't do that to DH. With his asthma and allergies, I wouldn't dream of doing that to him without us both being willing parties.

No, never. A pet is a big responsibility. It would have to be something we both agree upon.

I said YES only because DH is dying for a puppy and has been harping on me to get one for YEARS! And I've been the one saying no ... so I could see getting one to surprise him.

It's nice to see such responsible people. Chat Icon

I voted no, because we take pet ownership seriously and always make big decisions together.

That's assuming it's a biggie like a dog. I used to have an aquarium and would buy fish without his knowledge. But they were inexpensive and I was just adding to an existing tank.

(ok greenfreak I just saw your post about the fish. I did bring home a goldfish last year. If that counts I may have to change my answer Chat Icon )
