would you have the ped pierce DD's ears or go to a place?
i'm getting DD's ears pierced next month at 3 months old.
my ped's office does it for $50 including the earrings. i love my peds and all, but they're fairly older men. i'm sure my ped does it just fine but i can just imagine my grandfather trying to pierce a baby's ears and having them lopsided i can't think of a safer place to do it than their office though.
should i go to a "place" and have a young woman do it? do you think it matters?
how much does a place cost? if anyone has any suggestions, i'm in SW nassau.

My ped did G's. She made marks first and had me check to make sure I was happy with the spots before she actually did it.

I was planning on having my ped do it but I just found out that the Dr who used to do it is no longer with the practice. So I will be taking DD to a jeweler sometime next month. She will be about 4 mos.

One of Abby's pediatricians did it. No gun. Straight in her ears. Over in seconds. Not crooked. The man is clearly in his 60s. He measured from her tragus and it was very precise.

it should never be done with a gun. I know from being able to liscense to pierce. A gun can have left over blood residue, this is why tattoo places use needles.

Re: would you have the ped pierce DD's ears or go to a place?
I had DD's ears done at Claire's last month (at 3 1/2 months old). I was comfortable with my decision because the lady doing the piercing did it for a living. All she did was pierce ears all day long. She had already seen a few babies DD's age the day we went to have it done. So far DD's ears are healing beautifully and we've been good about cleaning it with the solution they gave us.

I had both my DD's done at Piercing Pagoda in the mall. I never understood why people had their pediatricians do it.

When I was a child, I had mine done by my pediatrician (an older man). They're even and I had no issues with them. If I had a DD, I don't think I'd go to the mall to get her ears pierced.

My mom did them in her office (she's a PED)
It was quick, she marked spots we agreed on with a marker, I helped hold DD and it was really quick, she maybe cried for a few minutes overall. She's never touched them or anything after and I've never taken them out or did anything to the piercing

The ped! I'm waiting for my girls to ask for them but if I did do it early ONLY the ped I have heard horror stories of how dirty some of the ear piercing places are. I would imagine the ped would be at least sanitary.

Personally I would do it at the ped's office over a place any day. I have friends who used to work at Claires and piercing pagoda and they we're trained on cardboard and then on the next unsuspecting person who came in the store.
I just feel safer with a baby being done at the peds.

Re: would you have the ped pierce DD's ears or go to a place?
I had them done at my pediatrician's office when DD was 6 months old. The Dr that did it is definitely an older man, and they came out just fine. He put dots on DD's ears to guide him, and we doubled checked that they were even before doing it.
Something about having it done at the Dr's office when I knew that being sterile and keeping DD safe was their number 1 priority made me totally at ease. If in the future, I have another DD, I would definitely do it again at the Ped.
