Would you leave your baby behind?

So I am in quandry. I work in sales and have qualified for a trip to the Bahamas for 4 days. It is the first time in 10 yrs! The trip is 100% paid for me an my spouse - including all daytime activities. My DC will be 2 mths. I keep wondering about my options.
1. If I take DC, then my mom would come. We would have to pay for all her expenses. During the day we can do activities together but at night she would be alone with the baby. I would feel terrible but there are business dinners in the evening that my spouse and I would need to attend.
2. Keep DC at home. My mom has been with me the last few weeks and is willing to take care of DC. She is a wonderful grandmother and both DH and I feel comfortable with DC staying with her. I would pump milk and leave it behind. We are heartbroken about leaving DC.
3. Not go

This is a business meeting and the expectation is that I go - I work in a field that is all men and its been hard being the pregnant woman. I worked hard to get to this point but I don't know what to do. DH tells me to go with my sister but I can't go without him. What would you do?

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I think 2 months is a little yong to go the Bahamas (JMHO) It sounds like you are comfortable with your mom watching her at home. DD will probably be happier and more comfortable at home.

I know it's hard, but I would say leave her at home with your mom. It's great that you have such a good support system. I left my 5 month old for a long weekend at my mom's (not the same, I know) and it was fine. It will be good for your and your husband to have some time too!

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I'd choose option # 2. Yes it will be very hard to leave DC but if it is expected that you go, and may affect your job then I see no reason not to. You said you are very comfortable with having your mom watch DC so that isn't really an issue. Plus you will get to go away with your DH! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

At 2 months old I would bring the baby. That is just me. I can't imagine pumping the whole time to make bottles and missing my newborn. I wouldn't completely relax unless I had the baby there.

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I would absolutely go but with Option #1. Take the baby and mom. If you are planning on nursing, you will want the baby near you to ensure your milk supply is kept up.
This is all assuming your mom will want to go!

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

Building that supply would get me nervous...I would no doubt be engorged in the Bahamas, even if I pumped there.

I would love to say #2, but the BFing gets me nervous.

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

If it were ME, I would go with Option #1.

But I may have issues. Chat Icon I don't like leaving my kids NOW and they are 4 and 6. I don't think I would have been able to hold myself together for any length of time when they were infants.

But - as I said - I may have issues.. so you can't go by me!Chat Icon

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

You are very lucky to have your mom happy to stay at home with DC - I would go and let grandma do her thing!!! The baby will be much more comfortable, and you will not be able to focus on your work and being professional with your baby nearby - I would go and enjoy yourself!!!!

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I would never have been able to leave my baby at 2 months. I still have a difficult time leaving her with other people now and she is 18 months.

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I personally would have never been able to leave my DS at 2 months, but it seems that it would be best professionally for you to go. So I think even though you would miss your baby very much it would be best to leave her at home with your mom. I think this would be best for her health. I would not want my DC enclosed inside an airplane at such a young age. You never know what your DC could catch, especially since at 2 months a baby does not have all their immunization shots.

I think I'd go, but, with the baby.
I can't leave the baby behind, especially at 2 months old.
If your mom is willing to go...Go.

Re: Would you leave your baby behind?

I would go and leave the baby with grandma. I had to go on a business trip my first week back from maternity leave. DD was 2.5 months and I left her with DH and his mom (his grandma too) so we were totally covered. I missed them all but knew they were in good hands and it was only a few days.
