Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
Leo works nights, so I can work it that he comes to the pool with us for an hour each early afternoon.
He will have Josh, I will have the other boy.
I don't want to put the boy's mother on the spot and make her feel like she is wrecking our summer fun if she says no...which she wouldn't be, Josh would just go to the pool with Leo.
But it would be a fun way to get them out every morning.
thoughts? tia!

Are you a good swimmer? CPR trained? is there a lifeguard at the pool? Those would be my main concerns.

I am a good swimmer, no lifeguard..took a CPR class years ago, then watched a refresher video last year.
Its my apt complex pool. Empty during the days.

From your perspective, I wouldn't do it even if she agreed to it. You could be opening yourself up to too much liability.

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
See I would know that I could handle another baby in the pool (as you described), BUT being the mom of that baby and not there - I'd have to say I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable.
Maybe mention it as an option of something you can do with the boys rather than something you'd like to do (like "when my DH is home we can take the boys down to the pool if you'd think your son would like that." Rather than, do you mind if I take him?" ) KWIM? That way it won't make her feel bad if she's not comfortable with it.

If I knew that both of you were there and a lifeguard was on duty I wouldn't mind at all.

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
thanks!
my mother said absolutely not.
I did not think it was an issue, since the kid's quality of day would improve with a daily swim.
I won't bring it up.

me neither. although one adult per child, I MAY ok it, but doubt it.
It cant hurt to ask her, you never know. tell her you wont be offended and totally understand if she'd rather not.
that boy is lucky to have you care for him

I baby-sat an infant and a 3 yr. old when I was 20 and took them in the pool all the time by myself. If their not an idiot and you trust them, I think it's fine.

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
I would be really nervous. If it is a kiddie pool with 2 inches of water yes!

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
I know I personally wouldn't let Jack in the pool with anyone - if I wasn't there (at least not right now - get back to me in a few years )
But - if it's a kiddie pool - I think I would be up for it!

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
thanks, its weird, as a teen I was a summer nanny.
little girls 2 and 5. I would be at the beach with them all summer and their house pool. I guess I never gave it a thought...neither did the parents.

I don't know...its just so risky...no matter how responsible you are, which you probably are without a doubt, but like someone said, you'd be opening yourself up to so much liability.

I am very laid back, but I would say no. Not because of trust issues but because accidents DO happen

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
Honestly Im kinda on the fence about it myself, but I dont have a FT babysitter that I deal with only PT which I think it kinda different. But I think you should throw the idea out there to the mom, she might not mind at all and it would definitley make the summer days more fun for her DS.

Same here-I was a summer nanny for two little girls and we also went in the pool.
However, I probably would not allow someone else to-not yet.

Re: Would you let your babysitter take your 15 month old swimming?
Its risky for YOU!
But..maybe bring her to the pool with you and Josh one day and let her see what it was like and how it would be and then let her make the decision?
