Would you name your baby....
something that your parents and your DH's parents hated?
Our top girls name is not a hit with our parents...not sure if we should start over!

Yes, I would.
My sis just had a baby and named him Lucas. Before he was born, my mom hated the name. Now, she loves it.

sure would NO ONE liked the name Lara when we chose it for dd. (except for my good ole sister ) we still chose it. Its yours and dh's decision THATS IT.

They will learn to love it. That stinks that they gave their opinion - they should just smile and nod. I would still use the name.

Yup. I don't particularly care what others think when it comes to names....all that matters is that DH and I like it. Other people will get used to it.

Yes. My mom will probably hate any name she didn't get to pick  If you're worried about people influencing your name decision with their opinions, it might be a good idea to keep the name choice to yourself until your LO is born.

yup! Same here. My mom had comments for almost every girl name I chose.So i told her too bad, you had your chance to name your daughter, now its my turn. She didnt like it, but i didnt care

I am usually the one who always cares about what other people think but in this situation, I agree with the others-name your baby whatever you and your DH decide on. I am sure they will learn to love that name once they meet the bundle of joy!

I would and am. There is at least one person on each side of the family that doesn't like our names but I don't really care, it's my child and not theirs. My SIL named my niece Violet, most people did not like it in the beginning (including myself) and now we could not imagine her having any other name. You can't please everyone, please yourselves

yes, without a doubt. My MIL announced a few years go, we werent even married yet, that we were not allowed to name her future Grandson after her deceased father b/c she didn't like his name. 
Now that we are preggo, DH & I have talked about it and its actually something we are considering. DH's Grandfather was his hero and I can't think of a better way to honor such a wonderful man.
I love my MIL very much but in this particular instance, she can s*&k it.

Honestly, this is why we're not sharing names before baby is born! I would definitely be influenced if our parents hated the name we chose.
With DS, we picked the name and then told them. My dad actually made a comment which hurt my feelings, but I'm not really sure he meant it in a bad way. Thankfully overall the reception was great from almost everyone with his name and it made me feel happy.

I'm afraid to tell DH's mother our name choices b/c she gave SIL a hard time about her name choices for her DD and DS, to the point that they changes it for DS. SIL warned me not to tell MIL! I will leave that up to DH in the end, but no matter what she thinks, we aren't changing the names. We are naming our first child after my grandmother (using the first letter of either her English or Hebrew name), and we are limited in the names that we can choose.

This is the reason that DH and I keep the name a secret. We did it with DD and are doing it this time as well. My parents hate it, but I keep something to the imagination and then once the baby gets her, they can't complain about the name! T
