Would you not do fireworks if you knew...
We moved in to our house in September and had a baby in October. Our neighbors told dh tonight that they and others on the blocks do fireworks tomorrow, they wanted to give us a heads up because of the baby. Totally fine. But then they told dh that there is a veteran who lives on the next block who has PTSD and hides in his basement on the fourth. If you did fireworks and you knew this, would you not do them? My heart breaks for this poor guy. There's nothing I can do I don't think, I don't even know who he is, but I feel like this holiday is about celebrating the freedom this man sacrificed to protect....something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

I wouldn't, but I am not a fan of street fireworks anyway, I prefer to leave them to the pros.
I feel terribly for your neighbor, poor guy. If people know that about him it's a shame they go ahead anyway.

I wouldn't do them either way, but knowing that would be another reason not to do it.
Unless fireworks are legal where you live, I think it's odd they came to tell you in advance. It sounds like they're telling you this is the way it is and go hide with your baby in the basement if you don't like it.

They aren't legal but apparently around here on the 4th the cops don't bother trying to stop all the people doing them. They didn't come specifically to tell us, they saw dh out and were discussing plans for tomorrow so they mentioned it to him.

I wouldn't do them at all. But if I did, and if I knew someone in my neighborhood suffered from PTSD, I would not set them off.
I feel terribly for that guy. How awful that he has to hide in his basement on a holiday 
As I'm typing this, my d!ckhead neighbor is setting some off. Annoying.

I live in a marine town. This is a huge issue. An absolute no.
The town begs and pleads not to set off any.
A big show is different, because they can see them.

I saw an awareness article posted on FB about this earlier this week and thought it was awesome for someone to share.
We don't do fireworks either, but I think it's awful that they know there is someone affected and are still doing them as evidenced by the basement comment.
I jumped a few times this week when they went off randomly so I can just imagine what someone with PTSD goes through.
We live in a selfish society though so I can't imagine this stopping anytime soon.

That is just so insensitive and incredibly selfish.
That soldier fought for us so that we can stil enjoy the 4th, and not have to live with REAL rocket fire and bullets.

IMO they are assholes.
I wouldn't call the police on people setting off fireworks normally but in this case I'd call and report their trashy asses.

I think street fireworks are idiotic and I hate them - I would never do them anyway but cannot believe that someone would continue setting them off when they know how negatively they are affecting a veteran in the neighborhood.
Honestly, what is the point of these street fireworks? They are illegal and you hear so so many stories of injuries. I don't see the appeal.

I wouldn't and I'm kinda scratching my head at why your neighbor even bothered to tell you.
It's kinda like hey that guy hides in his basement but we will still shoot off our fireworks. I wouldn't add to the stress that the other neighbors are already causing him.

I hate street fireworks to begin with but that is just awful that they still do them knowing that about this man.
Makes me wonder how many others are hiding in basements bc of it.

Jeez...this guy sounds so sensitive and understanding. Not only are HIS dogs afraid of them, but he knows a solider...a vet...who suffers from PTSD and still feels its OK.
