Maybe I'm a jerk - but I'd anonymously call the cops on the neighbors when they start doing the fireworks.
I'm soooo upset reading this. As a daughter of a vet, I have the utmost respect for our soldiers and this kind of cr@p really makes me mad. Shame on your neighbors.
I agree!! I come from a very large military town. My good friends sister lost her legs in Iraq after hitting an IED traveling in a HMMWV. She said the last thing she remembered before being blown up was looking off to the distance thinking how pretty the fireworks were. They were explosives.
I am not saying we should rule out fireworks totally on the 4th, but we should leave it up to the experts and not light off our own. I cant believe this guy would knowingly shoot them off. Shame on him!

Re: Would you not do fireworks if you knew...
I never thought fireworks really affect people. Thinking about it now makes me really sad. I hate illegal fireworks cause they make my dogs goes crazy and it makes it so I really can't leave them alone on the 4th of July and for the few days before and after the 4th.
I have neighbors that always call the cops on my other neighbors but that does nothing. The police really don't seem to care at all.
I know someone that goes all out every year, spends thousands on illegal fireworks and lights them off all day and all night long. The cops never do anything about it... even though they show up while stuff is being lit off, so it's not like they are hiding them when the cops come. I'm not sure if it's because the family is friends with a lot of the cops that work in that precinct or just because the police really don't care. I really wish they would enforce the laws and have stricter penalties for it.

I could NEVER knowingly do that, EVER.
ITA!!!!! How horrible!! This man fought for our country for goodness sake. And now on a day that we're supposed to be celebrating THAT very same country this man has to hide bc of PTSD. TERRIBLE!!!!!! I am the very proud daughter of a Vietnam Vet...my wonderful father has 3 purple hearts. Doesnt suffer from PTSD but it could've happened to him. He was lucky I suppose. Shame on your neighbors for knowingly torturing this poor man!!!!

The neighbors told DH that the cops come by and watch. We haven't been here for the 4th before so I'm not sure if that's true. We called the cops when someone in the area was setting them off last week late at night. If it's bad tonight I will again. I have no problem doing that.
Question: did any of those neighbors check on the guy afterwards to see if he was ok? I just cant fathom how they think this is OK
