Would you put your children on the lap of someone driving a 4 wheeler?
My neighbor is driving his 4 wheeler with not one but two small children sitting in his lap, wedged between his body and the steering wheel.
He's only going 5 miles per hour and the only other traffic on the street right now are the town plows but it seems a bit dangerous to me!
He just went by for the fourth time. Turns around at the corner and goes back to the house. He's plowing. So if he hit a curb or unexpected buried item in the snow... disaster.
I don't understand the thought process of people, I really don't.

Oh hell no. It would take so LITTLE for one or both of them to get seriously hurt. This is something my Dad would've done when we were little though

Sounds like the asshats by me. You know until they got their 5 year olds their own quads so they could zip all over not stopping at the stop signs.

Would I do it? No.
But I know that when I was little my brother used to drive me on some quad thing he had. I used to go on my friend's dad's motorcycle without a helmet when I was young.
It's a 'non' thought process.

I don't see the big deal. If they are going slow. DH has a ATV and I have let him take Andrew around and we plan on getting Andrew one very soon. Our nieces and nephews do it all the time too with someone on the back and them in the front. If the person knows how to drive it, no big deal.
I've seen the product of a traumatic head injury. I'll spare you the horrid details.
As parents we put our kids in car seats to protect them in an enclosed vehicle with an experienced driver. It defies logic that we would then turn around and let them ride on an ATV

No no no no no no no!!!
OMG who would do that
I think I'd have a hard time letting an older child on one of those, let alone one under the age of 12!

Our children will be getting their own ATV's. Andrew will be getting one very soon. If taught how to use it and taught where and when to drive it. It is no one elses business.
Read what I said - these kids zip all over the middle of the road as fast as they want, not stopping at intersections ...

Re: Would you put your children on the lap of someone driving a 4 wheeler?
I don't have a problem with ATVs generally. I have a problem with ATVs in the street. Around here, that is just plain stupid.
OFF the street, in a yard, park, etc. where they are allowed, with no car/truck traffic, I see no problem with someone holding a small child with a helmet on and going around at 5 mph.
As kids, we used to go out with family friends on their snowmobiles all the time, and we went a lot faster than 5mph. We weren't in the street, though - we were out in the open in rural PA. Yeah, yeah, yeah, different times, I know. And then MY parents were the over-protective ones then.

I was in an ATV accident when I was a teenager. We were following the rules and not going too fast (note an adult was driving), accidentally hit a large branch on the road and were thrown over the side of the road (there was a hill on one side). We went airborne and then thing LANDED on my midsection. I'm lucky all I had was broken ribs. I would NEVER in a million years let my son drive one before he had his drivers license and quite frankly find it unbelievable that it's even legal for a child to have one.
ETA: I completely think it is everyone's business if a child has one of these because they could be a danger not just to themselves!

This is exactly the issue. You can be extremely careful, but you have no idea what is UNDER the snow. Wow, you were extremely lucky!
