I don't see the big deal. If they are going slow. DH has a ATV and I have let him take Andrew around and we plan on getting Andrew one very soon. Our nieces and nephews do it all the time too with someone on the back and them in the front. If the person knows how to drive it, no big deal.

What kind of ATV are you getting him? A power wheels ATV?

Big difference between you holding DC while DH drives and what the OP stated while plowing.

To the people saying what this guy was doind is OK: did you even READ the OP?

The guy was PLOWING while holding 2 really small children on his LAP. Not taking a leisurely ride around the yard.

To answer the OP: no way in hell. VERY poor choice made by that parent. And yes I'm judging like crazy because there is NO excuse for putting little ones in harms way like that......

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Exactly. If the OP's post was read correctly it tells all of the above. The thread is all over the place bc everyones against 5ofclubs decision. If focused on the OP's post I would say it is pretty damn reckless.
To each their own but I am confused about getting a 4 yr old an ATV...what kind of ATV is for a 4 yr old?

ITA. I am not a huge fan of ATV's for adults or children anyway, they are so dangerous. My friends who are ER docs train at the shock trauma hospital in Baltimore, and I always hear horrible stories of kids and adults on ATVs. I myself will never get on one or allow my kids to, but that is just me.

Re: Would you put your children on the lap of someone driving a 4 wheeler?

in all honesty, it was probably one of those things that he didn't give a thought too..maybe he was home alone, no one else to watch kids, and thought it'd be fun for them.

(i'm not in agreement with his judgement, but obviously it wasn't his intent to purposely take chances and harm his kids)

perhaps the mother of the kids wasn't home, and had no idea...men are kinda doofy sometimes, and they do stuff like this, lol

(my DH thought it was a good idea to play hide and seek with an 18 month old...he hid and realized that the baby wasn't going to find him..so he went to get baby..and guess where baby was? under his crib, hiding himself!)

i lost it on him. but i digress.

he took a big risk and he probably didn't even think of it. maybe if you know the family/mother, you could mention it in passing, like "oh, i saw the kids on the 4wheeler..did they have fun?" (maybe the mom had no clue, you know?)

who knows. i can see it being fun, but yes, you can hit something that you didn't see and harm yourself, no matter how many safety measures you take.

I would never...but I live with someone who would put a helmet on a 3 year old and think he was giving him a great adventure.

ATV's do not belong on the street - period! We have 3 of them and use them upstate on trails with helmets on. I really hate when I see people zipping around on the streets, it is dangerouse for them and drivers. People that ride children on them in the street are very ignorant to how dangerous they are.

In response to the OP. Sounds like a dumb move, especially with 2 kids and I hope they had helmets.

As for ATV's in general, I have no issue with my DS going for a slow ride with a responsible adult AND wearing a helmet. My DS has been riding them since he was 2 and he is 4 now. Our family has 4 of them but we use them upstate on our property and on trails, we don't bring them down to LI.

We also drive a pickup with a bench seat (2 adults and a carseat) AND my 12 year old nephew has his hunting license, he got his first kill this past season. <--Just the type of people we are =).

BTW - They do make some really great small ATV's for kids.

NO WAY! I had an accident in one, and even if I didn't I would know not to.

Re: Would you put your children on the lap of someone driving a 4 wheeler?

No. My DH and I would never allow our child on the lap of someone driving a 4 wheeler - especially on icy roads.

I wouldn't get on one myself either. I've had too many bad experiences with them first-hand.
