Would you say something?
My twins got a $25 gift card from target. It was the type you purchase at target but more like at a cvs or supermarket. There was a range it could be $25-200.
My kids need nothing so I decided to use the gift card and put $ in their accounts .
Anyway when I tried to use it... It wasn't activated. Dh thinks I should say something not to get the gift card back but in case they actually paid for it. I say leave it alone. I don't want them to send us another one.

the fact your kids don't need a thing should not be part of the equation, you were given a gift someone paid money for and yes IMO you should mention it to them.
if they send you a new one that is their choice, I would feel bad if I found out later my gift card was not working.
You did not mention if it was friend or family etc, either way still mention it,

I would absolutely say something. The person paid for it, so you are all losing money.

That stinks. If I were close with the person I'd definitely say something. I might feel awkward if it a was an acquaintance but I'd probably still ask

Re: Would you say something?
My fear is that somehow it wasn't activated and she wasn't charged and didn't notice. Don't want to embarass her and definitely don't want her to send another one.
It's a close friend of mine from high school. I don't see her often

understandable to have that fear, but I would still mention it. Maybe something is wrong with card.
If it was you would you want to know, these are always difficult situations.
I wanted to add, I would prob feel odd as well, but if you are close friends, it might work best if you do mention it, say during a regular conversation, rather then calling her to mention it.

I'm no help... while I would never feel comfortable bringing it up, I would also want someone to tell me if I were the one who gave the gift card.

Re: Would you say something?
This happened to me recently for my son's bday one of his classmates gave him a toys r us gift card with the same issue. I didn't say anything. Because when I thought about it, unless they saved the receipt and had proof one way or the other (which I think was probably unlikely) they would feel embarrassed and buy another gift card - possibly spending more money with a big inconvenience. While its a crummy situation all around unless it was someone I was really close and comfortable with I felt bad to say anything! But after that happened when I give gift cards from these places I now cut the activation code off of the receipt from the store and include it with the card.

I would be mad if I found out a gc I bought was not activated. I always keep the receipts for those things. I used to work at cvs 10 years ago and remember so many problems with those cards. I'm sure things are better now, but it can still happen!!

Would you say something?
I'd say something. My mother had a problem last year with gift cards bought at the supermarket, she went back and they realized they had screwed something up on their part. And this year the same thing but it was a gift card from Bobs.
If I had paid for a gift card for somebody and it wasn't activated, I'd want to know. My hard earned $ was used for that and it would be like throwing my money away.

I would say something. I understand it's awkward and you don't want her to buy another gc, but she got ripped off by that store and I would want to know if it was me.

Re: Would you say something?
I would totally say something! What if she was charged but it wasn't activated or if she wasn't charged then what would be the big deal if she sent you another card. You can tell her there's no need to resend a gift but you just wanted to let her know incase she was charged.

Re: Would you say something?
I would say something because the person might have saved the receipt & the problem could be fixed without them buying a new gift card. I'd want to know if it happened to me as the gift giver. Although I'd probably be embarrassed to bring it up if I wasn't particularly close with the person... I might do it through email in a very casual way. It's tricky because I wouldn't want the person to feel embarrassed or feel that they should get another gift.

Re: Would you say something?
I wouldn't. As someone stated above, unless they saved the receipts there is nothing they can do. I never save receipts for gift cards. I think they will feel embarrassed.

Re: Would you say something?
I would absolutely say something! When I buy gift cards, I always save the receipts in case something like this happens. Otherwise their money is basically in the trash. I bet there are some scummy cashiers out there that pretend to activate the card by punching something else in the system, and then pocket the money.

Re: Would you say something?
I would say something. If it were me giving the gift I would want to know. We always give the gift card receipt with the gift card so if the have a problem they have the receipt, same as we always give a gift receipt with the gift. You never know.
