Re: Would you take your DC for a shot only visit if you knew their peds office had kids with swine flu coming in?

No. I am not in panic over this swine flu but if I had that information - no.
Same here.

Goobster - we spoke about this and you know I cancelled my appt. IMO, it's not worth the risk, and there is no danger in delaying shots until this dies down a little and we really know what we are dealing with.

Best bet is to ask the peds office like you said.
GL.. can you let me know what they advise you to do? Im supposed to bring my dd in next week for reweight check.. dont want to risk it either.
I had my DD's 9 month well visit on Tuesday and I called ahead and it turns out their office was packed with kids with the flu being checked. The receptionist suggested I cancel which I did. I didn't bother to make a reschedule until I know this has died down a bit.
Forest Hills Pediatrics, right? I had DS's appt today there and cancelled yesterday. The receptionist was being swamped with calls, all similar I'm sure.

No way....I would definately wait. It doesn't seem worth the risk - I would rather delay the shot.

if they are treating cases of swine flu in the office - the staff SHOULD have taken the preventive meds that they need to.
a friend of mine is a nurse in a doc's office who had their first positive come in yesterday and everyone on the staff is taking the meds.
eta: i would call & confirm this though - i would THINK it's standard - but who knows!
Good point...I should have asked the ped this but....
How long can people take the meds? For ex, if they take them the first week, and kids keep coming in for weeks....what happens then?
Are they still protected? Plus I am sure not everyone can or will take the Tamiflu...for whatever their reason may be. So I dont know about that. I may have to call and ask specific questions but after reading all your replies,I think I may put it off.

I would not unless it was imperative that she be seen which it is not for shots-they can wait-these are boosters right? Shes already had the originals
No not boosters. She is only 5 mths old, it's her second PC.
i am pretty sure that anything after the original shot is a booster at least that is what my ped told me.
Really? I thought any shots over 1 year are boosters?

Yep-thats what I meant. My dr told me they get most of their immunity from the first one and then teh follow ups just strengthen(so if they did get one of the illnesses-they would get less ill and recover more quickly than an unvaccinated child)
