Would you travel in a plane with a 6 week old?
We are due in Oct.
We have family out of state and would like to spend baby's first Christmas with them. I think it may be too early, this is our first
Thoughts?

Sorry, I wouldn't, esp. that time of the year...so many flu viruses, colds, etc.
Can they come to you?

I wouldn't because of being in an enclosed space. I have a friend whose child got chicken pox this way.

I wouldn't travel with such a young infant that time of year. DS was about that age this past holiday season and we didn't do the big family thing and if anyone did want to see us they had to come to us. Children that young shouldn't really be around large crowds that time of the year. Don't forget...fever=hopsital=possible spinal tap at that age. Keep that in mind.

Not me! I think 6 weeks old is too young to bring on a plane. Too many chances of them getting sick.

I wouldn't for a lot of reasons. The plane will be packed, it is cold & flu season, and at 6 weeks your infant will barely have had any shots. Too much risks, IMO.
Let family come to you guys!!!

Thats a good point. At 6 weeks PP I was still incontinent and I did not have my own immunities back either! Don't forget, as per my OB, your immune system is not back to normal until you have a few AF's under your belt.
It is doubtful that the ped will give ok for that time of year unless its an emergancy (I would imagine). Between H1N1, seasonal flu, cold and stomach virus season, RSV, etc, I would think that would be highly unlikely since these are big deals for a little one. Under 8 weeks old they are very quick to do spinal taps for fever.

Same here - I did a long-haul flight with DS when he was 9 weeks old.
PP do have a point though - you don't really know what kind of baby you'll have, ie colicky or generally unsettled. He or she might be a nightmare to travel with. If you can wait, I'd wait to book any flights until after the baby is born.

I would, but thats me. I would disinfect the area and keep the hood down and a light blanket over the carrier. I think DC will be fine...

Re: Would you travel in a plane with a 6 week old?
I wouldn't travel in a plane with a baby that young. Too many icky germs and being in cramped quarters on a plane is just not a good idea for a baby that small. Can you drive or is it too far? Maybe you will need to sit this Xmas out.

Re: Would you travel in a plane with a 6 week old?
we waited until DD at least had her 1st round of shots and the ped gave us the go ahead for any time after that. I personally would not go any earlier.
