Would you turn down this job offer... ?
Would you turn down a job offer for 30% more pay?
This new consulting job will be just abit more demanding, stressful, less security and 10-15 mins more in commute each way. It can last anywhere from 6 months to a few years...
I'm feeling totally remorseful about it now that I turned it down. Currently, I am doing consulting with another company where there's more chance of it going permanent here and the benefits are better.

It all depends on where I was in my life.
Right now, I'd turn it down. I wouldn't want to add more time, more stress, more demands & less job security for temporarily more money - particularly if I had somewhere more secure.

Consulting is hard. Money can be good, but the stress of instability can drive you to distraction.
Go with your gut. I went freelance in 2006, there have been a few times I freaked out (was unemployed for a couple of months in 2009), but overall the money has been fantastic. However, I would take a cut for a permanent job...even with the amount of money I make now...

Agreed. This is a major reason I stay where I am. Especially since I have a young child.
I know I could be making a lot more $$$$ somewhere else, with possibly better benefits, however, my job is close, I have a flexible schedule, if I need to work from home ever it's not questioned.........plus I don't worry about losing my job or going somewhere where things could be 100% worse (I have had that situation happen before).

Re: Would you turn down this job offer... ?
Dh has recently turned down 3 offers (this is through networking - not actively seeking) that would double or more his salary, b/c he works from home now and taking these jobs would be more hours and a long commute.
A bigger salary isn't always better - DH spends tons of time with the kids and on his golf game Can't beat quality of life sometimes.
