Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
We are actually talking about doing a cruise together in Jan. Different cabins but we could see each other as much -- or as little -- as we wanted on a cruise vacation. I think it would be fun!

Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
We have been on several cruises with both my parents and my in laws together and with the exception of dinner and planned activities we never see them. we spent more time walking around the boat looking for them. Never been a problem.
Good luck

Exactly I really don't get along with them. But as long as they know WE don't have to be together all day then its fine.

I don't have a desire to either but sometimes they invite themselves and how do you say no and not hurt you S.O feelings.

Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
Maybe I am weird, but I don't really have a desire to go on vacation with anyone but DH. If we have kids, I think it will just be us and the kids. I like the idea that it is time for us to be alone and enjoy one another without worrying about other people.
I want vacation to be relaxing and trying to plan things with too many other people and waiting around for what other people want to do is not relaxing for me.

Yes I would, I'm fortunate to have a great MIL, who knows me very well and knows when to back off.

Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
Yup. We're going on a cruise for Christmas with DH's whole family- mom, dad, 2 sisters and their husbands and our 1 year old neice. When we were deciding where to go for a family vacation, a cruise seemed like the best option since people could be together or go off to do something seperate so we didn't have to be together 24/7. I'm looking forward to it, but I suppose it has some potential for problems though I get along great with his family - they have all alwyas been wonderful to me, but sometimes there are - "differences of opinion" between some members of the family. Time will tell.

Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
DH and I have been on many vacations with my parents and a couple with his mom and my parents together and have had a great time. I say go for it, you never know how it will go until you try. If you all get along it should be lots of fun.
PS - I lived in Ireland for the last 18 months so if you have any questions, please feel free to send me a FM

Re: Would you vacation with your in-laws?
I have and it wasn't too bad! My ILs live in Florida for part of the year so we went to visit them (does that count?) Also, we went to DC for a graduation when DH and I were still in the "dating"phase. They really don't bother us at all and let us do our thing when we want. We generally just get together for dinners and "events" DH came on a vacation with my parents to Cancun about 1 year into our relationship. My dad and I SCUBA dive and he and my mom do not. While my dad and I went to Cozumel (the BEST diving!!), he stayed back at the hotel with my mom. We did this 3 out of the 7 days we were there. On the other 4 days, we would sit at the pool or beach together. Not a whole lot of "alone" time. Even after that, he still decided to marry me He was a lot braver for coming away with my family that I could ever take credit for with his family. My ILs are the sweetest people. My parents are great too but it is just different.
