would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
if he said I have an attorney who is really good. Also if you were thinking(not decided yet) of using someone else and the agent said the sellers are using that attorney so I would rather you work with "my guy" would you do it or would you find someone else?

I would not use an attorney that was recommended by the broker. THere are many people on here that have had wonderful experiences with attorneys I am sure someone wold be willing to recommend someone to you!

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
We used someone our real estate agent recommended and we were extremely happy with her. Michelle Bencivinni - East Islip. (631) 581-3755
Our buyers were dragging their feet in closing and our lawyer got them to the table through her actions. She was also good about explaining each and every document we were signing.

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
We are using the lawyer that our REA suggested...I don't think there are any problems with it....
At this time, we haven't had any issues and he is been more then accommendating...
In fact, my REA has a realtionship with our Laywer, which makes it that much easier to get intouch with him and at times answer questions or concerns we have....
If you have a good realtionship with your REA, he/she will not reccommend you to someone they didn't trust...You can even ask your REA any questions about the lawyer if you need more information to make a decision...

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
No. I wanted to be sure the attorney I hired only had my interests in mind.
We didn't use a buyers agent, we dealt directly with the listing agent. She really came across as an incompetent fool, especially in the beginning, so there was no way I was using her suggested attorney (I was afraid of incompetence by association). I also didn't like that she was really pushing us to use him (gave us his card then called to give us his number a few days later, and then the same day he called us because she gave him our number!) I also steered clear of her inspector recommendations.

We did. We didn't have an attorney and so they recommended the firm they work with. Worked out fine.

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
As an attorney I would say no. I had a huge tiff over this on LIW years ago, so I already know where this discussion might go. There are plenty of RE lawyers out there so why take the chance that the one you hire does not have your best interest in mind? If there is even a suggestion of a conflict of interest, why chance it? The RE's recommended attorney is not the only game in town. What really helped me with my closing was having an attorney who was familiar with the particular township that I was buying in. I did not represent myself in my own closing. There is an old saying about a person/lawyer who represents him/herself...........

We used the attorney our agent recommended. We were moving to an area where we knew pretty much no one. Our agent was wonderful and we had a great experience with the attorney he recommended.

We did, but only b/c FIL was a RE at the time and could vouch for the attorney also. I don't know if I would've trusted him otherwise.

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
I agree... REA appear like they are out for your best interests, but they just want to close quickly so they get their money and move on with their lives. My REA was also REALLY pushing her mortgage broker on me, which made me think that there was some sort of perk in it for her. No thanks! I have a legal plan through my job and I used one of their attorneys - so far so good things are going OK.

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
SO do you think the REA attorney will not disclose some of the little(but as important as anything else) information or problems just so they can help out the REA?

I don't believe this at all.
I have an attorney that I have used numerous times, and the reason I recommend him is because I trust him with everything. He even did my closing. His loyalty is to his client - not to me (as a REA).

Re: would you work with an attorney that your real estate agent recommended?
I would and did use an attorney that my REA recommended. She gave me a list of 12 attorneys. I called each one of them and then picked based upon price, how long they had been practicing and my feel for them as people. I would not use the same attorney that the seller is using under any circumstances.

You can't use the same attorney that the seller is using. No attorney should be accepting both sides as clients.
