Wow, people's true colors really come through....

Not sure if anyone remembers my nanny post last week (essentially I felt horrible about letting her go, giving ample notification, severence etc.) and was even having second thoughts about it but she just solidified that she is NOT right for our family.

DH told her this morning when he picked her up that my stepbrother died quite tragically over the weekend and that I'd be asking her about making some adjustments to her schedule due to the services. I will preface this by saying we have NEVER ONCE in 2 years asked her to stay even 15 minutes late although we've had plenty of leave a few hours early days and given her FAR more paid time off than any nanny i know (what totals to about 7 weeks NOT incl holidays which is significantly more than we even agreed to when we hired her).

So I just called her and said I'm not sure if Mark told you and she cut me off and said "yes so when do you need me?". i explained that if we could just move her hours back (come in late, stay late) on Thurs and then she could come in late on Fri but Mark would skip the wake on Fri night so she could still leave normal time. I also asked if she did not have plans on Saturday if she would mind watching him on Saturday for additional pay. She made me feel uncomfortable for even asking such a question and then informed me that it will be $20/hr for Saturday because it's the weekend. That's fine that it's more expensive on a weekend but we've been beyond generous with this woman and are in the midst of a devastating family tragedy and she cant even express a single condolence? NOT even a "so sorry to hear that" just here's what I'm going to charge you. I'm STUNNED. We treat this woman like family. I told her I was going to see if my cousin could do it and that I'd get back to her but the reality is DS isnt the kind of kid you can leave with someone he doesnt see everyday and I cant spend Saturday worried about how he's doing when I need to be there for my family. I'm just amazed at how people show their true colors in tragedy both good and bad...

I'm sorry for your loss. I understand how you feel BUT I also understand the Nanny's side. I mean your DH did just tell her all about it that AM so she probably just wanted to get the details because she needs to plan her week as well.

I think it is wonderful that you want to look out for her and give her as much severance and opportunity to find new work as possible but she doesn't seem to deserve it the way she has treated you.

That is the only reason why I suggested possibly lying to her about your reasoning for letting her go and for not giving her notice.

I recall some of your older posts about issues you've had with her, and frankly, I would be afraid of her leaving you in a bind if you give her too much notice, or not caring the last few weeks.

But she couldnt even muster up an "i'm sorry for your loss" before launching into her weekend pricing schedule? Perhaps be a little bit sensitive to the fact that my family is dealing with the most horrific thing a family can deal with? Yes, I understand this might have effed up her week but quite frankly it's just effed up my family forever so I'd think she'd have a little compassion for that...

exactly, she is a miserable witch, there is NO excuse for acting like that...a simple "I am sorry for your loss" would have sufficed Chat Icon
