Wrong charge for an item on my dinner check

DH and I went to a local Italian restaurant. We both had one glass of Pinot Noir which was $7 per glass on the menu.

The bill came and it seemed a little high. I added up everything manually and it was right however I noticed that they charged $18 for the wine not $14.

Dh didn't want me to say anything and to let it go but I did anyway.Chat Icon

The waiter who was excellent btw-said that's how it rang up in the computer. I asked him politely to check the menu against the computer. Sure enough it was wrong. Don't mess with me and numbers..

He changed it and we paid and left. I thanked him and left him a very generous tip.

Would you have said something? DH was a bit embarassed but I'm not Rockefeller..$4 is $4.

I would have absolutely said something. DH is constantly embarrassed by me. In fact, he's just used to the fact that if he goes out with me in public he runs the risk of being embarrassed.

No if it was incorrect it is okay to say something. It is the principal not the amount. I know DH would have said something if that happened. I'm not sure why you would be embarrassed. It wasn't like you said you didn't like the wine - just that an error in pricing had happened. If you were at a store and they charged you the wrong amount you would speak up and say something.

yeahp, I always say something because in mind that is false advertisement if you go to a store to buy something and it ring the difference you would make sure they charge the correct amount

I wouldn't have. But also, having worked as a waitress for many years, I'd scrutinize the check before I would drop it to the table. So the server should have seen the discrepancy.

This is such a moral dilemma for me...on one hand, it is not what you ordered, so of course you have the right to correct it, but I'm afraid of being "that person" too Chat Icon

I would have addressed it had I noticed it although I probably wouldn't have noticed a $4 discrepancy

I absolutely would have said something. You should pay the correct price, there's nothing wrong with that.

I think it was totally valid and reasonable for you to say something. You were not charged the price on the menu. Period.

Nobody wants to be "that person", but to me "that person" is the d-bag who complains about everything because he's angling for a free entree, not the person who correctly points out an error.

Of course I would say something. Why wouldn't you? You were charged the wrong price. If you go to the grocery store, and the milk rings up $8.49 instead of $4.49, of course you would say something. A restaurant is no different IMO.
