WWYD - friend at work?
i have become friendly with the girl who sits in the cube next to me at work and she is miserable. she complains about EVERYTHING. Now it would be one thing to complain to me, but she sends emails to the VP in our office, her boss in the UK, the complaints have made their way up to the man right below the CEO, who IMO, doesn't need to be bothered with her complaints about the office temperature and buying a space heater. when she has problems with someone, she doesn't approach them directly, she just go straight to someone with authority and these are minor issues - like today it was the radio of a girl who sits near her. she felt it was too loud but rather than say something to the girl, she went to the VP and now nobody is allowed to listen to the radio. The VP told me in confidence that she's driving her boss nuts with complaints that are totally unjustified (and she has shown them to me and he's right) and if it doesn't stop, he may have to let her go.
She doesn't get along with anyone (except me and one other girl) in the office and I was trying for months to figure out why. Now I see. She's a nice girl but I don't want to find myself in a place where I am being associated as a complainer. So...WWYD?

stay the f away from her! seriously rob. stuff like this is going on in my office right now.
if she ever gets in trouble she will hold it against you and rat you out immediatey!

ITA. I am having a similar problem with the woman in the cube next to me. She is a chronic complainer, but instead of to the higher ups she'll complain to me, customers, agencies, sales reps....anyone who will listen. Luckily I am working for a woman whom I worked for in the past, so she knows my work ethic, but I'll tell you this woman has at times said, "Me and MsMBV think that...." and then will complain. Luckily my boss knows better, and knows if I ever had a problem I'd go to the source, but if I did not work for someone I knew it could be a very different situation.
Unfair as it is, guilt by association is VERY hard to disprove.

Just be very careful...distance yourself a little...she seems the type who would stab you in the back in a heartbeat!! Also, professionally, I'm sure everyone knows what a PITA she is and you don't really want to be associated with her in that way, I'm sure....
