WWYD? Day care slip up...

On the meet and greet day they asked me if was bringing them any diaper creme after they noticed there was none in his bag.

I explained that I don't use it. So far, Liam hasn't had any redness. He is EBF and EBF tend to not have that much diaper rash. When he was under a month old I was really nuts about it and everytime I put creme on any redness, it got worse. So, now I don't use creme for a little bit of redness. I use some Caldescene powder at night.. but only on an as needed basis.. maybe 3 times total. It clears it up right away.

I explained that to them and told them that I would prefer to just have them tell me if there was redness and I would apply the powder. If creme was needed beyond that, I would let them know and supply it for them....

So, I get him home today.. and he has creme all over his butt. I don't even know what kind. I am really mad! What if he had an allergy. They must have used some other kids creme!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Also, I don't think they have that much experience with BF babies. It is only day 4 but, they ask me everyday when he had his last bottle. I tell them.. He "nursed" at 8am or whatever.. they always correct themselves. They always forget that he is breastfed. I can't remember what was said today but, it was clear that they had no idea he was EBF. I mean, come on.. there are only 8 kids in the room!!! It's really annoying me. Chat Icon

So, would you say something tomorrow? Let it go and see if it happens again? I am afraid they are going to think I'm nuts because I don't use creme..but, not for nothing.. he's my baby.. What I say goes!!Chat Icon

I would let the bottle/nursing thing go, but I would definitely say something about the butt cream.

I would absolutely say something... you care for your child the way that you want to care for them.... to be honest i would be extremely ****** if they had done it to ds and definitely would have made it an issue

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

I would address the cream thing....big deal IMO...

As far as the bottle/nursing thing goes....I wouldnt let it bother you...Honestly... Im not even sure if the girls ask me, when his last bottle was or if they say nurse, or even if they say feeding... and I KNOW they know my son EBF since I nurse Im my lunch break every day...

Im always sure to let them know if I nursed vs giving a bottle only because he tends to go longer stretches after a bottle of EBM vs. nursing.... but other than that...not sure what they need to know...

Feed my child, the bottles/milk I provide when he is hungry....if the milk came from my boob or can....shouldnt matter to them!

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

Thanks girls. I was pretty ****** about the butt cream and I wasn't sure if I was being silly or not.

The bottle vs. breast thing.. I guess it just annoys me that they kind of don't get it yet... But, whatever.. as long as he's getting his bottles.

I think most people use diaper cream so it's probably just part of their routine or habit. Diaper rash is very upsetting for parents so they are probably trying to cover themselves. Unless you have another day care in mind, I wouldn't make a big deal about it unless the diaper cream harms your DS.

I agree with this....I think they probably thought you forgot it, so they didn't want to screw up and make his tush red.

But I would mention it to them so they don't do it againChat Icon

Actually my center requires medical slips to be completed for diaper cream (even over the counter.) They claim it is required by NYS. Whether it is or not just sends a message that they take even diaper cream application seriously, so yes I think they should be doing as YOU say.

As for the bf/bottle thing - not important how they ask or what they call it. THEY are giving your DC a bottle whether its formula or breastmilk. Cut them some slack.

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

I'd be ****** & like you said, what if he had an allergy?

My DC are also EBF & I rarely use cream on them, DD is over 2 & I may have used it a handful of times. If anything here/there we'd use a little vasoline.

I'd definitely bring it up w/ them & ask what it was & where it came from & stress how you prefer it NOT being used.

I would definitely say something about the cream. I would just be very honest with them and let them know it bothered me. I wouldn't be nasty about it but very direct.

I would definitley question the rash cream! Whose was it and why was it on your son?
The center I used to work for, parents had to fill out permission slips for the creams. I'd make a list and keep it taped, on the wall, right next to the changing area of who had permission to get what!
We are all human. We all make mistakes, but, definitley bring it to the teachers attention.

As for the EBF, Bottle thing, I'd let that go. Im sure its routine and Im sure they will ask you every AM to get a general idea of when the last time your DC ate was.

ITA. It's Day 4, I would cut them some slack. If it keeps happening I would be upset.

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

I would totally rip them a new one for putting bum cream on DS! how dare they!! They obviously need to get more organized and to talk to their employees... I bet whoever changed DS thought that you just 'forgot it' and used someone else's cream. I'd be friggin pisssed! Chat Icon As for the bottle vs. nursing thing- it doesn't affect DS so I would continue to correct them but let it go. It really doesn't matter either way since he is getting bottles while he is at daycare. Chat Icon

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

You are not weird, I only use diaper cream when there is severe redness.

I would say something because 1, there could have been an allergy issue and 2, it will make them more cautious next time...

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

I only use diaper cream when he's very red also ......but I wouldn't go in there guns blazing ......I WOULD however remind them that you DO NOT want them to use cream on your child -

The bottle thing, I'd let that go. THEY're not going to nurse him KWIM? So who really cares if they say 'nursed' or 'got a bottle'?? With THEM, he gets a bottle, regardless of what you put in it - KWIM?

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

Well I would say something about the cream! What cream did they use and did they use another childs cream? At DS Day each child had to have their OWN cream otherwise no cream was used.

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

Yes, you need to say something. There were a few discrepencies about DS daycare and after I spoke with them about it so far it seems like they listened. I guess you have to keep reminding them and call in to see how he's doing.

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

I am sorry to say this but I have 3 kids in daycare and these "errors" are so so so minor. In my opinion you will have a long road ahead of you if you go in with "guns blazing". The diaper cream, just remind them (no big deal). As for the bottle comment, does it really matter ?????

On day, ypu will need these daycare providers to do something out of the ordinary for you and you want to esablish good relations with them.

Good luck

Re: WWYD? Day care slip up...

Neither of those things would bother me. A little butt cream isn't going to hurt him, if anything it will relieve some pain. I'm sure they were looking at it that way. Maybe it was red enough at the time to warrant them putting it on him. If you are going to trust him in their care - I would also learn to trust their judgement on certain things, especially something like this.

And the wording about what he ate - who really cares what they call it. They give him what you bring in. They can call it whatever they want.
