WWYD? Moving and keeping or switching Pediatricians

We will be moving to Northport this year. We are currently in West Islip. Our Ped is in the same town.

I looooove our Ped Practice. Would you drive 40 plus minutes to visit the Doctor, or would you go to a new one?

I'd prob try to find one closer!! Do you really wanna drive 40 min when you have a sick child who may have the runs or be puking?

Good Luck with whatever you decideChat Icon

We drive just over 30 minutes for our ped. I would rather drive to a ped that I've trusted for decades (he was my ped) than go to a closer one that I don't know. In 6 years, the drive has never been an issue.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would switch. It's a long way to go for something like an ear infection. In my opinion, get them used to their new home, their new surroundings sooner rather than later.

And to answer your next question.

We moved and I kept our pediatrician (I now have to drive further) Maybe in the future I will change but I really like DS's pediatrician....

I go to west islip also and I live about 10-15 minutes away. Personally, I would probably keep it the same. I think DH really loves our doc too but I would have to see what he thought. Mostly likely I would want to keep it the same though. At least for a few more years.

I would keep the same ped if you're happy with them. It's not like you're there often so if you have to drive out once in a while it's not a big deal. When I was little we lived in Seaford and my mom drove us all the way to Elmont to see our ped because she loved him and didn't want to switch. Chat Icon

When I moved, I switched. Like pp's have said...it's a long drive when you have a child screaming because of an ear infection.

I used North Shore Medical Group in Huntington when I was in that area. Dr. Prushik.

I agree, however I will say that my SIL drives over 40 minutes for her ped because she loves them!

i live 45 minutes away from my ped in normal morning traffic..i wouldnt ever consider switching..ive been with them since I was 5 years old..and my 10 year old ds sees them, my 14 year old nephew sees them..they are wonderful, will do anything for us..and theyre affiliated with Schneiders, which in case of anything serious, id travel to bring my kids to anyway. I say if youre happy and comfortable, stay
