WWYD re: engagement ring?

My e ring no longer fits my fat asss finger. It has filigree work going all around it. There is no way in heaven or hell I will ever lose enough weight to be my pre-marital weight.

Do I suck it up and have it sized - it would destroy the work on the underside of the ring?

Or do I just keep it in our lockbox and kick myself daily for gaining so much weight?

I'm so torn. Seriously - I don't think I could lose the weight.

ITA! If you love wearing it, then you can find a new setting that is similar and get it in your size.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

Forgive me if this is TMI but how much weight did you gain? Even if it is 20 lbs you may not have to lose all of it to have the ring fit again. 5-8 lbs might be OK. Try it, you certainly have a great cause!

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

Honestly - I think I gained like 30... I was verrrry thin when we got engaged. Even if I worked out hardcore for a year - I don't think I'd get back to that weight...

I wouldn't reset it - the beauty is in the ring itself - so I would really have to get it stretched.

I'm so mad at myself. I am going to start going to the gym next week. Arrrgh!

Writing out this post really gave me motivation though - I'm not going to lie!

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

My wedding ring has been so tight for a while and am currently having it sized just a half-up. I was definitely much thinner at my wedding but I'm not beating myself up about it.

I say get it resized!

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

I say go to the gym and try to get yourself back in shape! At the very least you'll know you made an effort and you'll feel amazing about yourself. If you can't get back to that weight after really trying and it's still too small, get a new similar settingChat Icon

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

Did you take it to a jeweler and ask?

I would have a professional jeweler look at it an give you some options about resizing. I am sure they have seen this before and might have a good suggestion.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

Were you at that weight for a long time? As in was it a stable weight for you? Because if so, then I think you can get back there. I lost 30 lbs and I am now at the weight I was in HS, and I've kept it off for nearly 6 years. It is definitely doable if the weight you were at before is a comfortable weight for you (i.e. if you weren't underweight when you got engaged)

im sure if you take it to the jeweler there are a few options for you.. what if they cut it and insert a piece of metal on the bottom? like an infinity ring that has a metal bar on the bottom.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

I would say to get it resized so you can enjoy it again. However, I am now about 50lbs heavier than I was in college. I wore my HS ring all through college. From the weight I am now, I have fluctuated back down 10-15 lbs at times. My ring fits again when I only lose a fraction of the weight. It may only be the last few pounds that have an effect on your ring size!!!!!!!!

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

My wedding bad had stones all the way around and filigree designs and I couldn't get it re-sized. Chat Icon I was willing to sell it, but the amount they offered me was ridiculous because the ring was so small - they said they would have a hard time selling it - it was a size 4. It's sitting in my dresser and I plan on giving it to DD for a special occasion when she gets older.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

How about keeping the setting as is, take stone outs, get new ring with stones that fits.

You can take Original setting and either lock up for memmories or put a different stone in it and put on necklace and wear around neck.. this way you always have.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

I recently had to resize mine. I wouldn't just put it in a drawer. I'm way too sentimental like that.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

My wedding rings are tight, so i feel your pain, It is very hard for me to get them off.

I am positive you can get it resized.
These jewlers can do anything, your setting will not be ruined.

Re: WWYD re: engagement ring?

Thanks everyone... I will go to a jeweler this weekend and see what they say.

I think my finger is one whole size up from when we got engaged so maybe it is only a few pounds I'll have to lose. Thank you!
