WWYD.........possible new job
Quick background......... I work for a corporate travel company in the city. I will be with the company for 10 years this coming November. A friend of mine knows of a job opening here on the Island and gave me the name and number of the woman who is hiring. Of course I want to work closer to home now that I have a baby but I guess Im afraid of change. I make really good money in the city- I know I wont get that much on Long Island. It will make my day MUCH shorter (I leave my house at 615am and get home on a good day at 7:45pm). Im worried what if this new place has to have layoffs- since I would be new, would I be the first to go? I feel "at home" at my current job.......
What would you do?

Re: WWYD.........possible new job
Go on the interview and see if you love it and can get close to your money.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Don't kick yourself for not pursuing it.
You may even be able to use it as a bargaining chip to get better working conditions at your current gig.

Re: WWYD.........possible new job
i agree. if you haven't already, i'd check it out. exploring the option doesn't commit you to anything. you just get a better feel for how you'd feel about the whole thing.
my sister took a big pay cut when she moved to a LI based company, but she LOVES her new hours. She's home by 5:20 every day, whereas before it was 6:30. plus she can see the kids at lunchtime if sheneeds to, also rearrange her morning hours if she needs to for the kids

Re: WWYD.........possible new job
Some one very wise once told me "it doesn't cost anything to talk". So I have gone on every interview I have been given. Sometimes its a great opportunity sometimes it's not but it won't hurt to see what the deal is.

Re: WWYD.........possible new job
Go to the interview. Get a feel for it. Like is it a new position? How busy are they? etc....
I personally always ask for the income. I know it's a big no no but no need to waste my time on different interview if we are not even on the same page financially speaking.
Then decide! Sometimes it's a gut feeling!

Re: WWYD.........possible new job
I also agree about going on an interview - never hurts.
don't forget that even though you may lose salary, you also lose commute $ and time. You can't buy time, but sometimes this is the closest way to do it.
