Re: WWYD...TTC and start new job?
Ughh that's a tough one. I am normally all for not putting any aspect of your life on hold while TTC because it can be so unpredictable you could end up putting something off for far longer than you anticipated. However, in your situation, with how amazing your current maternity leave policy is I'm leaning more towards putting off a new job for now. Maybe set yourself a time limit. For instance, if you aren't pregnant by the 1 year mark then you will start to persue other jobs.
This is assuming you are not completely miserable/stressed at work. I understand firsthand how terrible it can be to be in that situation. If that is the case I would make the switch now, being extremely unhappy at a job will not do anything to help with TTC.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Keep in mind, in the end it is your decision and I'm sure whatever you choose will be what is right for you and your life.

How dependant will you be on maternity leave pay? I think the decision all really depends on 1. - just how unhappy are you at your current job and is it affecting your health? and 2. - will not having maternity pay be detrimental to your financial situation when the time comes?

Re: WWYD...TTC and start new job?
well it's a pretty personal decision in the end but I can relate and share what I did. . I wanted to lok for a new job but also wanted to start TTC and I have 3 months paid leave at my job so decided just to work until baby comes and then possibly look for another job then.
But for me, having the paid leave was pretty important and my job has GREAT insurance and DH is looking for a job right now so for me when I put all that together it was a no brainer. But that said, I didn't have any great opportunities staring me in the face so if it's something that you're REALLY excited about, I'd say go for it if the financial situation you are in allows it but if not, maybe try for something after. FMLA act says places really don't have to give you leave unless you've been there a full year - I've seen some jobs not care but there's no laws to protect you under that.

That's a tough one.
Can your DH afford to support you guys without your maternity leave pay? Or will it make a big difference if you get paid or not?
If your earnings don't make much of a difference, I'd get a better job now. You never know how long it will take.
I have a good friend who was in a similar boat. She's been at her job for over 5 years and they have a great maternity leave package. She has wanted to switch jobs for a while but she thought she'd get pregnant right away and she could take advantage of the fact that she had been there for a while. Now it's 2 years later and she wishes she looked for a new job earlier. She still has the mentality that she will get pregnant any day now.

do you feel comfortable being pregnant right away at a new job? I know my current job has really amazing maternity benefits so DH and I are planning for me to keep this job for baby 1 and possibly even for baby 2. Plus, I know I wouldnt feel comfortable going on maternity leave right away at a new job, so that is a consideration for us as well

Re: WWYD...TTC and start new job?
I think the main concern is that if I get preggers in my current job I know I will have a job to go back to and opportunity for part-time if I want. If i change jobs then I may not have the peace of mind to know there is something waiting for me when I'm ready. I would need to have at least part-time income to keep us financially comfortable.
I don't completely hate my job though I want to leave due to long commute, unhappiness with salary and less job satisfaction. I am in the healthcare field.
