WWYD? New Job and TTC
So after being unemployed for 6 months I finally got a job. But now that I'm in TTC mode, I don't want to stop. Would you continue to TTC after starting a new job or would you wait until FMLA would kick in? (Which I believe is after a year, so I would have to wait at least 3 months to TTC again)
Also know that I have issues with getting pregnant and it could take me several cycles.

I would continue to TTC. I'm pretty sure most jobs can't fire you for being pregnant (I -could- be wrong). What I would look into, however, is if they offer maternity leave or if you can only take an unpaid short-term leave.

My gut reaction is to say keep TTC.
However, the logical side of me thinks that it depends on your personal financial situation. If being out on maternity leave without FMLA coverage would cause hardship, then maybe you should wait a few months.

Re: WWYD? New Job and TTC
I know that our jobs are super important - but, I don't think they should dictate when you can or can't do things for your family. So I say, keep going...If financially it would put a huge burden on you, then maybe you do need to take that into account, but I say to TTC. 3 months can sometimes feel like 3 years...

Re: WWYD? New Job and TTC
My take is this.............if you want a children and a family then you don't put it off for anything. I just feel like you never know what the future will bring nor do you know if you will have problems conceiving. I thought it would be so easy to have a baby when we were ready and I was wrong. I wished I didn't wait so long to try, if I could go back I would've started a lot younger.
Anyway, I think you need to weigh your priorities. What do you care about more? What is most important to you? Once you establish that your decision will be a lot easier to make. Good luck!!

Re: WWYD? New Job and TTC
I temporarily put off TTC when I got the job promotion at work (even though I've been with the company for 9 years).
I started in March in the new position, and we started TTC late April (I figured even if we got PG right away, I still would wait the 12 weeks to tell, which would be around 6 months in the new role.

Re: WWYD? New Job and TTC
I'd keep TTC. It took us six months to get a BFP, and we had no medical issues. And I think most companies would work something out with you if you do get pg right away. JMO though.

Re: WWYD? New Job and TTC
i got a new job this past march. i was already TTC unsuccessfully for 10 months. i decided to take the first two months at the new job off from TTC. well not completely - i dont O without meds - so i took a break from meds. i did O once during that time and we did , it was BFN.
anyway its such a personal decision. for me, my new job is at a startup, so im one of 4 people who work there. its a job where if it works out in a few years i could have enough money to really have a decent nest egg for the family. i also dont know the rules on maternity there - its a small company - i didnt want to risk not being there long enough to get paid maternity. so my original plan was to wait until mid-May to start TTC again, but once i got AF after actually ovulating on my own, i decided it was natures way of saying its time to get back into the baby making business. that was the end of april, and i just ended that cycle with an early m/c, but i did actually get PG and if it stuck i would have been due before i was with the company for a year - so my maternity could have possibly been in jeopardy. i dont have to worry about that now since my next TTC opportunity will put me far enough out that if it is successful i will be there over a year when the baby is born...
anyway sorry this is so long, but really my main motivator in waiting was to make sure i get to spend those first few weeks at home but without the hardship of not getting paid. TTC makes people very irrational sometimes and i didn't want to make a stupid decision just because im impatient. obviously all that being said i did end up cutting my waiting period short by almost a month because i just couldnt wait any longer - and if it stuck then i may have had an issue..
i think if its a job that has a future and you plan to go back after the baby is born, and you are not sure about maternity leave policies, you take all of that into account when deciding whether to wait or not. for me, part of me wishes i hadn't waited cause i have a lot of issues (some known like PCOS and some i didnt know about until this week) but overall i dont regret either the decision to wait or the decision to start again earlier than planned.
