For those of you who are in the same boat as me - wanting to be a SAHM

Thanks in advance!

i know how you feel.... it can be very scary... but DH and I came to the decision that i will be a SAHM also.. it just means a little more overtime for him..not eating out..cutting back where we need to.... and we wouldnt have to worry about daycare...its SO expensive..and mon-fri 9-5 can be very costly... so this is what made our decision... and we already did our cutbacks so it makes it a little easier for when the baby comes .. just think of how much time you have to save as well !

I agree... It is scary but worth everything... When DH and I were trying for DS we looked at all the options, and yes I made a great salary and also brought home tons of cash off the books as well.... We checked daycare and when we found a really good one it was just not worth all the money.... I am a SAHM now and TTC #2... Yes it's tough, but with cutting back on going out, using coupons, and just being a smart shopper it falls into place and works... I would not have changed a thing.. It has been a great joy being able to stay home and watch my son grow..

Good Luck....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not sure if this helps at all, but my DH will be a SAHD.

I make more than he does, so this is pretty much the only way it will work.

Right now, we live off my salary and pretend his doesn't exist (all goes into savings). If we didn't have that money - we would not feel it in terms of our day to day living, just in terms of how much we save every month.

Why not have a trial period where you only spend DH's money and don't even touch a dime of yours? Put all of yours into savings that way you'll have a little cushion for the difficult times when you're just starting out with your new child, and you'll see if you can make it on one salary. Try all of the necessary cutbacks - coupons, eating at home, buying in bulk, etc.

I feel you here. I would love to be a SAHM, and that is part of the reason we are relocating to Boca Raton. DH is trying to land a lucrative position, and the idea is that I would practice law independently so that I can somewhat get the best of both worlds. There will definitely be sacrifices, but we are considering it.
