Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

I know its really early to think about this, but I need to start budgeting for xmas. How much do you give to teachers, assistants, directors at christmas? Do you always give cash, or are gifts acceptable?

I'm going to add onto your questions and ask what you do if there are 2 teachers who are there 4 days/week and a couple of other people who fill in when each of the main teachers has a day off. Do you give something to everyone or just the 2 main teachers?

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

I gave gifts cards. There were 5 teachers in her class and she had been there less than a month at Christmas time so I gave them each $10 gift cards.

I gave $50 giftcards to the teachers last year and small gifts to the assistants & the director (around $20).

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

I have decided that I am not tipping at Christmas time, since at this age, he will have had 8 or 9 teachers for this year by the time Christmas rolls around (he moved up to another room once this year and will again in another month or two).

What I decided to do is give the teachers a tip when he moves up to the next room, and I will give a small token gift to whatever teachers he has at Christmas time. It just seems easier and more fair to me this way.

I am thinking about getting a small gift at Christmas for one of the floaters as well. I think because she fills in for my of the classrooms, she may not get anything from parents.

ETA - I gave the same amount to all the teachers in his room. He has the same teachers every day, and while I know the head teacher does more prep work, he gets the same attention and affection from all of them. I love the head teacher he has now and I know she buys things out of her own pocket for the kids, so this time I may give her something extra

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

DS is going to start next month and in the infant room. I guess it depends on his head teacher and the floaters. If I really love the head teacher and see DS has a connection I'll get like a $50 gift for her and maybe bring in cookied os something for the assitants

I have a suggestion for parents who have a lot of teachers to give gifts to...

How about getting them Bagels or lunch? That way you get everyone but you don't have to spend a fortune. I know my girls love getting meals during the holidays Chat Icon

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

hi ladies, im crashing....

i worked in daycares for about 5 years, and different parents did different things around the holidays...

some would give a giftcard to each of us. (always different - ranging anywhere between $10 - $50)
some would give a holiday card with cash (like $20)
sometimes each of us teachers/asst. teachers received a small lotion set from bath and body works (like a lotion and showergel)
i remember getting little ornaments that said "worlds best teacher" or "#1 teacher" and those were always very cute (and all of us teachers would get one)
it all depends on how much you want to spend and what you feel like giving...

i do feel that its nice to give the same thing to all of the teachers... people used to give "extra" to the directors, which was always seemed a little silly to me, since she was barely around the children and left early all the time, while the teachers and asst. teachers were the ones that were really taking care of the kids all the time.

if you are unsure what to give bc of new teachers, or floaters, or whatever the circumstances, food is always a big +!!

its nice to do one food gift for all of the teachers in the classroom (and not too expensive either!), like donuts, homemade cookies, or one of those fancy holiday box sets that has different treats in it.

a nice card with a cute holiday pic of DC and a tray of cookies is just fine Chat Icon

I LOVE IT! Great idea. Maybe send it to the head teacher?

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

Last year I sent an edible arrangement. DD had only been there for 4 months and I didn't even know all the teachers that worked with her.

This year I still don't know all of the teachers since some of them are part time and I'm only there in the mornings when I drop DD off.

I know they all loved what I sent and they were really happy that it arrived during naptime so they didn't have to share with the kids. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Xmas Tipping @ Daycare

I give $50 to each teacher. I will give $100 to the twins teacher (since she watches both babies Chat Icon ).

Today is the last day of the school year before a week break. I have each teacher $25 because they only started attending in June.

However, give what you can afford.
