XP: Low sodium diets..
I got preclampcia with Julia at 38 weeks, and had an emergency C because of it. Now with this pregnancy my Doctor said its not common to get it again, but I am just so scared of getting it that I'm making myself crazy trying to find foods with low salt. I don't know what to eat anymore, I know I can have some salts, but I'm trying to really be careful this time.
Anyone else have to be on a low salt diet because of there BP? what do you eat during the day?
TIA!

Re: XP: Low sodium diets..
I developed pre-eclampsia at the end of my last pregnancy as well. Like you, I didn't want to have it again. I was told there is no way to predict or prevent it. I think the low sodium is good no matter what and you should stick to foods that aren't processed or prepackaged. Those types of foods tend to have a lot of salt.

I had preclamp. and was never told to be on a low-sodium diet. I was actually told that has nothing to do with it.

Re: XP: Low sodium diets..
First off - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! (I wasn't around when you made your announcement)
I don't know much about low sodium diets or preeclampsia but I CAN tell you this - most pre-prepared, prepackaged, and canned food are LOADED with sodium. So it probably wouldn't hurt to avoid canned anything and read labels on those kinds of things.
Another thing I guess would be to not stress too much about it (especially since your Doc said it's uncommon for it to happen again) because that could probably make your BP go up too
I think you'll be fine

Thanks!! I'm just so nervous this time around, I'm making myself nuts and don't know what I should eat everyday.... I just wish they had a test I could take to tell me if I'm gonna get it again this pregnancy, so I wouldn't be such a wacko--lol
I'm not eating any frozen or canned foods! I'm not cooking with salt either.
I guess there really isn't much I can do about it and just pray it doesn't happen again, I'm going to talk to my doctor again at my visit next week.
BTW: You avatar is so cute! Your hair looks beautiful!!

See I didn't develop it till I was 38 weeks and my BP was fine my whole pregnancy! It was only high for 2 days then my dr decided to give me and emergency C, there wasn't protein in my urine at all..... I'm not sure if I had full blown preclampcia or what? He did tell my DH in the hospital that it was good he took the baby out when he did.....I'm so confused!

Re: XP: Low sodium diets..
WHen my bp went up I tried to control it with low sodium....did a little but still ended up with pre-e. For flavor I used Mrs. Dash...and instead of bread crumbs...matza meal. and balsamic vinegar for salad dressing. I will prob do the same thing you are doing the next time around
