Xpost - I need photoshop help....i'm lost

To place a photo into a card:
You start out by 5x7 background.
Then you go to File, Open...search for photo and it will open in Photoshop.
You have to "Select all", an option under one of the toolbars (i cant remember which on) and copy and then go back to your 1st background and paste. At this time it may be a lot larger and you minimize by using the arrows to make smaller. (Icon on left side, in corner on top)
I have Elements. Its easier but there is a lot to play with and it took me awhile to get it as well. I also got some help from ladies on here.
