xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I haven't tried whole wheat pasta in years but back when I tried it I didn't like the taste/texture.
I know they've come a long way and I want to try it out, so I'm wondering what brands people who use it often would recommend and am also looking for quick/easy recipe suggestions.
TIA! Melissa

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I use Ronzoni Healthy Harvest and I like it! Don't really have any recipes besides add jar sauce (I'm a bad bad italian, i know). Sometimes I'll sauté some vegetables and use that as a sauce.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I have not tried it, however I did buy some rotini last week and I saw this recipe on 30 minutes meals yesterday, that sounds good and easy...
Cauliflower Sauce with Whole-Wheat Penne Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray See this recipe on air Monday Jan. 15 at 2:30 PM ET/PT. Show: 30 Minute Meals Episode: Healthy, Wealthy & Wise 1 pound whole-wheat penne rigate Salt 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil 3 cloves garlic, cracked from skin and sliced 1 red onion, finely chopped 1 head cauliflower, stem removed and chopped 1 cup chicken stock 4 sprigs fresh rosemary, leaves stripped and finely chopped 3/4 cup grated Romano, 3 generous handfuls Salt and black pepper
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt and pasta and cook to al dente. Drain and reserve 2 ladles of pasta water. While water is coming up to a boil and pasta cooks, make sauce. Heat a deep skillet over medium heat with extra-virgin olive oil. Add garlic and cook 3 minutes, then remove. Add onions and cook 5 minutes then add cauliflower, chicken stock and the rosemary. Cover the pan and cook 15 minutes. Uncover the sauce, add 1 to 2 ladles of pasta water and mash the cauliflower with the back of a wooden spoon or potato masher. Add the pasta and cheese to the cauliflower and toss to combine. Season the dish with salt and pepper, to taste, and serve.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I've tried Ronzoni and Barilla. I thought Ronzoni was awful and the Barilla was really good.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
We used to eat Ronzoni Healthy Harvest but I didn't like because it would always under or over cook and I just couldn't get it right. We switched to Barilla Plus and I love it. As someone else said, it is enriched with Omega 3s and extra fiber and protein, plus made with all whole grain. In cooking light magazine, they reviewed a bunch of whole grain pastas and this one was the best for you and the best taste!

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
For spaghetti I like Healthy Harvest, for penne/rigatoni I like Barilla Plus. The only thing I use regular pasta for is orzo and macoroni. I use the whole wheat with any recipe that calls for pasta.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I like the Ronzoni Healthy Harvest too- have tried the penne, spaghetti and rotini. I make it with meat sauce or plain red sauce. We tried the Hodgson Mill brand and didn't like it at all- the consistency/texture was icky.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
I use some organic brands because a lot of the others are whole wheat blends so if you want whole wheat pasta for health reasons you have to get 100% whole wheat. That should the only ingredient. It's definitely a bit grainier but you get used to it. I still love regular spaghetti best though.

Re: xpost from recipes -- Whole Wheat Pasta
Thanks guys! I think I am going to try and make it tomorrow night with the Brocolli Rabe, garlic, onions and some chicken stock. If I go through with it (and don't chicken out!) I'll let everyone know how it came out!
