Jet blue charged me $50 - I was 45 lbs under
Jake was 10 lbs over
he even had his neck brace on

That doesn't make sense - 45 lbs underweight would mean your bag weighed 5 pounds. I think my empty suitcase weighs nearly that much.  And I am surprised they didn't let you redistribute your stuff - I see people doing that every time I fly.

I should have said....
it wasn't a bag- it was a fishing pole in a plastic case
so it's not like I could have added anything to it
they even lost it for 12 hours
it went to whiteplains and had to be delivered the next day
I got $80 in credits back- so it all worked out in the end- and I am $30 a head of the game

gotcha...that makes much more sense now. your original post was a little misleading since Sweetest of Peas was asking about suitcases.
