SLR camera owners, lens question.
what lens do you recommend is sufficient to get for everyday pictures.
I can worry about getting even better ones down the road, for now I want to get the camera first.

Re: SLR camera owners, lens question.
The basic one my camera came with is the 18-55...that's the basic, everyday use one. I also got the 55-200 one which I LOVE for closeups.
HTH!

Re: SLR camera owners, lens question.
What camera do you have?
I just got a 18-135mm lens. Down the road I want the 18-200mm VR lens.

I want to get the Nikon d80. FINALLY!!!!
I have the D40x (bought it last year)and got it with the 18-55mm lens kit. I did not want 2 lenses (18-55 and 55-200) because I did not want to keep switching lenses.
Just after a few months I regretted not getting a better lens when I purchased it. I wished I had got the 18-135mm when I bought my camera. It's not as expensive as the 18-200mm VR and it's a great everyday lens.
I did get the 18-135mm for Christmas this year.
I woudl recommend the 18-135mm.

Re: SLR camera owners, lens question.
I would absolutely recommend the 18-135 - I use it for everything from maternity, newborns to toddler. Its an extremely versatile lens and much more affordable than the 18-200.
Portraits I love my 50mm - I get my clearest and best shots off that lens b/c the f-stop goes down so low (down to 1.4). It doesn't allow you to zoom so it takes some getting used to but its a classic lens worth investing in at some point.

Re: SLR camera owners, lens question.
I just got the 18-200 mm VR for Christmas I haven't used it yet, but everyone tells me I won't be disappointed
For cost, the best value is the 18-135, hands down.

Re: SLR camera owners, lens question.
If you can just buy the body without a lens, I would definitely get the 18-200mm.
