XPost--High Amniotic Fluid?

Did anyone go through this during their pregnancy??
Thank you so much for whatever reassurance anyone has.
Here is what I posted on the preg. board.

I know I don't post often, and I only post when majorly concerned about something. And I apologize for that. Last I posted a couple of months ago I was having a lot of contractions and was at risk for preterm labor. I am now 33--almost 34 weeks, and am almost out of the woods in that department (yahoo!) .....
But I have a high level of amniotic fluid. I was first diagnosed about 2 weeks ago--and it was 32 (normal is below 25).....This past Friday it was measured and went up to 37. Which is considered severe (over 35). Chat Icon Now, my dr is not too concerned, they are monitoring me/it VERY closely with NST/BPPs 2 times a week, but he says he really thinks it is nothing. One of the things it could be is a fetal abnormality, but dr says the things that it could be would have been found on ultrasound and weren't. The other concern is when the water breaks, it can break with a great force and cause some problems. I am terrified.
Ugh, PLEASE someone tell me they have either been through this or know someone who has, and baby was born completelly healthy. Please? Chat Icon

yes I had the same thing and I scoured the web looking for positive info and was soo scared. I was measured a few weeks ahead in his head size and high fluid...highest for me was like 34. It varied though.

I had biweekly NST's and Fetal growth Sonos.

My son is 100% FINE. There is not a darn thing wrong with him ( and his head is 50th percentile Chat Icon so go figure.

Lilykat on here had a similiar issue and hers was more severe then mine. Her daughter too is FINE.

As I talked about this during my PG, a lot of friends told me that had known people that it happened to.

MRsJ ( she doesnt post much anymore) but she too had the same thing and her daughter is perfect as well.

Funniest thing was they prepared me for this HUGE gush when my water broke..told me to sleep on hefty Garbage bags and to be aware of getting to the hospital ASAP when water broke. ( the Cord prolapse story Im sure they gave you)

Well my water leaked so slowly...There was NO gush like they said. ( although MrsJ said her water broke and there was a lot but she was in the hospital for a whiel before it happened)

So be prepared for all the possibilities.

And PLEASE PLEASE try not to worry. I stressed myself out like crazy and so far not one person who had tthe same thing had any problems...

Thank you so much guys! I am just so freaked out. I can't think about anything else! (Being on bedrest doesn't help due to the lack of distractions.)Chat Icon

Re: XPost--High Amniotic Fluid?

Hi I just saw this and wanted to respond. The condition is polyhydramnious. I had it with my DD and she is 100% fine too. In fact in something like 70% of cases the reason for the condition is completely unknown. My water broke in my sleep at 34w4d. It was a HUGE gush. My fluid levels were in the mid 30s. Please continue to rest and take it easy for a few more weeks. Its very scary and uncomfortable but I am sure your DC is fine. Chat Icon Chat Icon I always meausred 5 weeks ahead and I swear the most annoying thing was how many people constantly asked me if I was due soon or having twins. Good luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had this too- but for me there was concern of a swallowing problem - b.c right before I had the high fluid (polyhydramios) they found a small stomach, which later resolved.

My level was at 35 for a few weeks - I was on bedrest for contractions and told I would probably go - every week for a while - they said you will never make it to 34 weeks, then 35... etc. My fluid magically went down about 1 1/2 -2 weeks before I delivered (at 38.4 weeks) with no explanation.

The concern is rupture and force of the fluid exiting pulling down the cord if your water breaks. Just be prepared and know what to look for and what to do - and then DON"T worry about it - easier said than done I know.

Honestly most of the cases are unknown - I would go with your Drs gut that it is just a fluke.

I had a very healthy baby girl who had no issues at all. So did all the other girls I spoke with who had this condition.

Please just relax and take it easy on your feet was what my dr suggested.

Re: XPost--High Amniotic Fluid?

I was told all the scary things that could happen to the baby with my high amount of fluid. I had TON of fluid. SO much in there that my big baby was still swimming around in my belly the morning I delivered.

Doctors are overly cautious when there is anything out of the ordinary. Bascially for me, they said I'd have a c-section and to make sure I got to the hospital as soon as my water broke. I was also put on modified bedrest for the last few weeks of pregnancy.

I gave birth to a healthy 11 1/2 pound baby. So I think it's safe to say all went well! Chat Icon
